Job summary

Munson Healthcare in northern Michigan is seeking a Payroll Manager to lead payroll operations across the system, ensuring accurate and timely payroll delivery through processing, time collection, balancing, reporting, and tax form administration. You will develop the payroll team with coaching and succession planning while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local laws.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.
• 5–7 years of progressive payroll administration experience, including payroll processing and compliance.
• 3+ years of leadership experience with staff development and process improvements.
• CPP certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead payroll operations, including payroll processing, time collection, payroll balancing, reporting, tax form administration, and issue resolution to ensure accurate and timely payroll delivery.
• Manage and develop the payroll team through recruiting, training, coaching, performance management, and succession planning.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations, including tax reporting, wage and hour requirements, garnishments, and record retention.
• Lead payroll system enhancements, upgrades, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency, automation, and compliance.
• Serve as the primary payroll resource and liaison for Human Resources, Finance, Information Technology, auditors, vendors, and organizational leaders on payroll-related matters.

What’s Required

• 3+ years of leadership experience with a proven ability to develop staff, manage resources, and drive process improvements.
• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification preferred.
