Job summary

Sun Country Airlines is seeking a Manager of SOC Standards to lead development, implementation, and maintenance of standardized SOC processes, training programs, and career development paths. You will guide Duty Manager and SOC Coordinator teams and partner with SOC leaders to align manuals, checklists, and training across Dispatch, Crew Scheduling, Maintenance, and other operations areas.

The role requires strong leadership, deep knowledge of SOC operations, and experience driving

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and improve SOC policies, procedures, manuals, checklists, and quick references.
  • Design and maintain training curriculum for Duty Manager and SOC Coordinator teams.
  • Conduct initial and recurrent training for SOC Duty Managers and SOC Coordinators.
  • Implement new policies in coordination with senior SOC leadership.
  • Own the SOC Manual and Delay Management Manual updates and communications.
  • Develop event call procedures and escalation guidance for irregular operations.
  • Support Emergency Response Manager with SOC readiness activities.
  • Collaborate with Dispatch, Crew Scheduling, Maintenance, AOG, and others to reflect cross-functional processes.
  • Lead merger/acquisition readiness with standardized procedures and training materials.
  • Map current and future-state processes, identify gaps, and support integration efforts.

Manager of SOC Standards Overview:

Sun Country Airlines is seeking a Manager of SOC Standards to be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining standardized SOC processes, procedures, training programs, and career development pathways that support safe, efficient, and compliant airline operations. This role provides leadership for the Duty Manager and SOC Coordinator teams and partners closely with SOC departmental leaders to align policies, procedures, manuals, checklists, training materials, and merger and acquisition readiness activities across all areas of the System Operations Control organization, including Dispatch, Crew Scheduling, Crew Travel, Maintenance Control, Maintenance Planning, AOG, Station Support, and other operational support functions.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve SOC policies, procedures, manuals, checklists, and quick reference materials to support safe, compliant, and efficient daily operations.
  • Design and maintain initial, recurrent, and career development training curriculum for Duty Manager and SOC Coordinator teams, including daily operations management, irregular operations, emergency response, security, safety, applicable manuals, crew scheduling rules, delay management, and leadership development.
  • Conduct initial and recurrent training for SOC Duty Managers and SOC Coordinators, ensuring training content remains current, practical, and aligned with operational needs.
  • Implement new or revised policies and procedures in coordination with the Sr. Director, SOC and applicable SOC department leaders.
  • Serve as the owner and primary steward of the SOC Manual, ensuring content is accurate, current, and aligned with regulatory, operational, and company requirements.
  • Serve as the owner and primary steward of the Delay Management Manual, including updates, communication, training, and operational implementation.
  • Develop and maintain significant event call procedures, operational escalation guidance, and related checklists used during irregular operations and high-impact events.
  • Support the Emergency Response Manager with SOC checklist maintenance, training alignment, and readiness activities.
  • Partner with SOC departments, including Dispatch, Crew Scheduling, Crew Travel, Maintenance Control, Maintenance Planning, AOG, Station Support, and other operational teams, to ensure training and procedural guidance reflects current cross-functional processes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve standardization, knowledge retention, process discipline, and communication across the SOC.
  • Lead and support merger and acquisition readiness efforts across all SOC functional areas by developing standardized procedures, training materials, transition checklists, process alignment tools, and operational readiness documentation that promote continuity, consistency, and effective change management.
  • Partner with SOC leaders and cross-functional stakeholders to assess current-state and future-state processes, identify procedural gaps, map interdependencies, and support the development of integrated operating standards during merger, acquisition, and transition activities.
  • Coordinate readiness efforts for SOC integration workstreams, including operational control procedures, escalation protocols, communication flows, training requirements, desk-level responsibilities, manual alignment, and transition support for affected teams.
  • Share operational on-call responsibilities with the Sr. Director, SOC and Manager, SOC, providing leadership support during irregular operations and significant operational events.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of related airline operations experience, preferably within an SOC, OCC, Dispatch, or operational control environment.
  • Strong knowledge of airline operational control, irregular operations management, emergency response, delay management, and cross-functional SOC coordination.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop clear procedures, training materials, operational guidance, and leadership communications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn and use operational systems, manuals, and training platforms.
  • Working understanding of aviation safety standards, safe operating practices, applicable Federal Aviation Regulations, and the certificate holder’s operations specifications.
  • Ability to evaluate complex operational situations, make timely decisions, manage ambiguity, and develop practical solutions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm, professional, and effective during stressful or high-impact operational conditions.
  • Highly motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments, build partnerships, and drive shared operational outcomes.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, including the ability to coach, train, mentor, and develop team members.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment while maintaining clear communication, defined responsibilities, and appropriate lines of authority.
  • Ability to support merger, acquisition, and integration initiatives by translating complex operational changes into clear procedures, training content, implementation plans, and stakeholder communications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in aviation, business, operations management, or a related field.
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, or management experience within airline operations.
  • Experience developing operational procedures, training curriculum, manuals, checklists, or standard work documents.
  • Experience supporting regulatory, audit, safety, emergency response, or operational readiness activities.
  • Experience supporting merger and acquisition integration, operational transition planning, change management, process harmonization, or enterprise transformation initiatives within an airline or operational control environment.

Compensation:

Pay range: $120,000 - $140,000 USD annually. This is the base compensation hiring range for this role.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Provides leadership, coaching, training, performance support, and career development guidance for SOC Duty Managers and SOC Coordinators.

This job operates in a professional office and SOC environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets, as well as airline operational systems and communication tools.
