Job summary

Cooperative Computer Services (CCS) of Lincolnshire, IL, seeks an experienced Manager of Metadata Services to lead metadata and technical services for over 30 member libraries.

Reporting to the Executive Director, you will oversee cataloging, serials, acquisitions, and ILS-related systems, while guiding CCS’s metadata programs and member training initiatives.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in library science (ALA-accredited) or master's in computer science or equivalent experience.
• Five years of relevant experience including library, database administration, and supervision.
• Knowledge of ILS or enterprise systems and automated processes.
• Knowledge of metadata frameworks (MARC, RDA, Bibframe) and API integrations.
• Experience managing complex projects and independent judgment.
• Experience designing/evaluating services preferred.
• Inter-agency collaboration experience preferred.
• Ability to learn emerging technologies.
• Experience providing hybrid training/support.

Job description

Cooperative Computer Services (CCS) is seeking an experienced metadata librarian with a passion for collaboration and continuous improvement to join our team of ten.Join our member-driven organization at CCS and play a key role in supporting over 30-member libraries and the communities they serve.

Reporting to the Executive Director, this new full-time position as the Manager of Metadata Services will develop CCS’s expanding metadata and technical services offerings to members in addition to providing ongoing support to members related to cataloging, serials, and acquisitions.

Located in Lincolnshire, Illinois CCS is a vibrant library consortium that serves public libraries across the north and northwest suburbs of Chicago that share a database for circulation, acquisitions, cataloging, interlibrary loan, and an online public access catalog. HIGHLIGHTS OF WHAT YOUR ROLE IS:
Department Management (35%)

• Research, identify, design, and implement sustainable, scalable programs and services to add value to CCS membership.
• Manage technical services (cataloging, serials, acquisitions) programs and services.
• Develop and manage the ILS Administration budget for subscriptions, software, project assistance, and consultants as requested by the Executive Director.

Database Administration, Training, and Support (35%)

• Oversee the management of the consortium’s integrated library system (Polaris) and ILS-adjacent systems and services.
• Serve as escalation point for high-level tickets and member concerns. Work with CCS staff, members and vendors to analyze, prioritize, and resolve issues efficiently and effectively.
• Cooperate with the Director of Member Services to ensure the plan for and execution of virtual and in-person technical services continuing education and training for members furthering the strategic goals of CCS.
• Provide on-call support service during off-hours, as assigned.

Other (30%)

• Participate in library relations initiatives designed to create and maintain a favorable public image for CCS, including training, continuing education, and ongoing communication.
• Coordinate, prepare for and facilitate virtual and in-person meetings to engage and inform members and ensure participation in collaborative decision-making processes.
• Develop, recommend, and implement changes to CCS policies and procedures; assist with the implementation of CCS governance decisions.
• Work with the Executive Director and management team to plan, research, and develop major projects and initiatives.
• Other duties as assigned.
  

WHAT WE REQUIRE:

• Master's degree in library science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution OR master's degree in computer science or similar field OR equivalent experience.
• Five (5) years of relevant experience required, including library, database administration, and supervisory experience.
• Knowledge and experience with Integrated Library Systems or similar enterprise systems required, including developing automated processes for routine work.
• Knowledge of metadata frameworks (e.g., MARC, RDA, Bibframe), API integrations, authentication protocols, and third-party software interoperability.
• Experience managing complex projects required, including demonstrated capacity for independent judgement, leadership, and initiative.
• Experience designing and evaluating services is highly preferred.
• Experience with inter-agency collaboration preferred.
• Ability to experiment with, adapt to, and continuously learn emerging technologies.
• Experience providing training and/or support to end users in a hybrid environment.
