Bell Lumber & Pole Company is seeking a Manager of Manufacturing Improvement Engineer in New Brighton, MN. The role drives manufacturing engineering, continuous improvement, and automation across Bell sites in North America, delivering safer, more reliable and efficient operations.

The position reports to site leadership and requires collaboration with Operations, CI, Environmental and Safety teams. Travel to Bell locations is expected; competitive benefits are provided.

Manager of Manufacturing Improvement Engineer

Full-time Regular New Brighton, MN, US

Salary Range: $125,000.00 To $165,000.00 Annually

Lead the transformation of manufacturing excellence across Bell’s sites throughout North America. In this high-impact leadership role, you’ll drive manufacturing engineering and continuous improvement initiatives that make our operations safer, more reliable, more efficient, more sustainable, and increasingly automated.

Working closely with Operations and cross-functional partners, you’ll provide the technical expertise and project leadership needed to optimize processes and equipment, establish best practices, accelerate standardization, and bring innovative solutions to life. This position is located onsite at our New Brighton, MN office.

Compensation: $125,000.00 - $165,000.00 / Annually

As a Manager of Manufacturing Improvement Engineer, you will:

• Apply engineering and project leadership techniques to assist in management, improvement, and innovation of manufacturing processes related to wood utility poles and other wood structures
• Provide technical support, operations experience, continuous improvement expertise and project management skills to support site and plant operations to ensure safe and sustainable operations
• Design and conduct experiments in collaboration with the Operations team members at plant and/or pilot scale to advance knowledge of manufacturing processes from woodlands through treating and glulam plants
• Provide engineering support for management, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of plant scale wood processing and handling machinery and equipment at treating plants, processing yards, and glulam plant
• Engage in design improvement, modification and manufacture of wood processing and handling machinery and equipment such as peelers, shavers, incisors, planers, cranes, and hoists
• Analyze, model and simulate manufacturing flow data and processes to develop and implement automation technologies, machinery, and processes
• Participate in organizational strategic planning and provide leadership for policy development and operational execution with project plans that incorporate tracking and dashboarding of KPIs
• Establish SOP and develop communication and training to assure adherence to established processing standards
• Coordinate with Continuous Improvement, Production, Environmental, and Safety to implement and monitor manufacturing processes that fully support quality and business plans
• Oversee and ensure accurate product documentation, process design, and process work instructions that meet internal and external customer requirements
• Assist in management of customer specification kits including manufacturing prints in collaboration with CI, Operations and Sales groups
• Collaborate with EHS Manager to develop and conduct safety and environmental training related to manufacturing processes
• Collaborate with plant and/or site managers in assessing catastrophic risks associated with manufacturing processes
• Develop, implement, and manage departmental budgets, processes, and overall designs
• Supervises assigned staff and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications:

Education:Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or other closely related field

Experience:3 -5 years of relevant experience preferred, 1 -3 years of supervisory experience required

• Previous experience/best practices implementing and using continuous improvement/lean tools such as; 5-S, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Transactional Lean, etc. to drive improvement
• Demonstrated ability in project and process management and leadership
• Demonstrated proficiency with operations data and design programs and applications along with Microsoft Office/365 (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and/or Power BI)
