Job Summary

Solar One’s Green Workforce program trains students in hard skills that align with the broader clean energy sector, including green construction, green building operations and maintenance, building electrification, HVAC, solar PV, and more. Solar One is seeking a Training Manager, Green Workforce to plan, develop, organize, and implement workforce development instruction, curriculum, and programming , both onsite at the Long Island City office and offsite at partner locations. Reporting to the Sr. Director, this role is responsible for the strategy and execution of both existing and future programming efforts.

Conduct day-to-day management of training programs at the Long Island City workforce training lab and two classroom spaces, as well as satellite locations. This includes but is not limited to:

Collaborating with the Sr. Director to manage the daily workflow, scheduling, and operations of the Green Workforce Program.

Ensuring proper equipment and supply inventory needed for all training delivery. Overseeing the supply budget to purchase and maintain supplies as needed.

Coordination of staff scheduling assignments. Oversight of programmatic training deliverables that are planned out and executed on a rolling quarterly basis.

Planning and executing projects to enhance the learning environment for students and continually improve overall space efficiency.

Analyze current curriculum and develop, design, or modify programs to ensure effectiveness and relevance. Collaborate on strategic needs for improvement and execute with the Managing Director and/or Sr. Director. Collaborate with and assign tasks and timelines to Sr. Instructor & Lab Coordinator as appropriate; monitor staff progress and hold accountable to meeting deliverables on schedule.

Remain current on trends and developments in educational techniques and technologies.

Monitor quantitative and qualitative metrics, guidelines, and standards by which the Green Workforce program’s efficiency and effectiveness can be evaluated, leveraging data gathered to make informed decisions about opportunities for improvement. Collaborate with the Sr. Director and Program Manager to ensure student and training-related data are readily tracked, updated and usable for reporting needs and new RFPs.

Track and record all training activities and metrics related to individual classes and students in Salesforce, including but not limited to: attendance, grades, and completion rates. Create and maintain accurate reports for internal and external communications with staff and partners.

Develop and execute programmatic safety protocols for the Green Workforce program. Enforce safety and security standards for staff, students, and visitors at all times.

Oversee weekly and monthly course scheduling and logistics throughout the program year. Share monthly schedules with the Green Workforce team, assign instructors to specific rooms, and ensure enough staff is available to deliver scheduled programs.

Supervise three senior workforce instructors and two workforce instructors. Mentor instructional staff and seek opportunities to foster their interests. Develop staffing plans to use resources effectively. Conduct performance evaluations.

Identify and recruit independent contractors and instructional staff to support the program.

Collaborate with Sr. Director on durable skills training needs, job fairs, and job placement activities.

Maintain positive relationships with external Solar One partners. Own relationship with programmatic staff in charge of making decisions for future program planning as it relates to scheduling and budgetary needs.

Assist the Sr. Director in the creation and implementation of the annual program budget. Monitor expense projections versus actuals monthly to ensure the program remains financially responsible.

As needed, act as a backup or off-site workforce instructor.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s preferred in education or related fields.

Three to five years of experience in program management, preferably in the educational and/or clean energy sectors.

Five years of experience with STEM, climate action, and/or environmental sustainability. Classroom experience is strongly preferred.

Experience working within the workforce development sector, specifically with underserved and marginalized communities.

Experience leading and managing teams to meet programmatic goals and deliverables.

Strong preference for experience with curriculum development.

Knowledge of anti-racist and culturally responsive pedagogy is strongly preferred.

Demonstrated success in communicating with partner organizations and individuals to build and maintain strong partnerships.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Proven track record of proactivity and the ability to problem-solve in ambiguous situations.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Google Suite, including Calendar, Docs, Spreadsheet, and Drive.

Ability to work independently and proactively. The right candidate will anticipate programmatic needs and take action without direct direction from their supervisor.

Pay and Benefits

This position is full-time / Exempt

Paying $90,000-100,000 per year (salary based on experience)
