Solar One’s Green Workforce program trains students in hard skills that align with the broader clean energy sector, including green construction, green building operations and maintenance, building electrification, HVAC, solar PV, and more. Solar One is seeking a Manager of Training, Green Workforce to plan, develop, organize, and implement workforce development instruction, curriculum, and programming, both onsite at the Long Island City office and offsite at partner locations. Reporting to the Managing Director, this role is responsible for the strategy and execution of both existing and future programming efforts.
Develop program and curriculum design. Analyze current curriculum and develop, design, or modify programs to ensure effectiveness and relevance.
Remain current on trends and developments in educational techniques and technologies.
Establish quantitative and qualitative metrics, guidelines, and standards by which the Green Workforce program’s efficiency and effectiveness can be evaluated, leveraging data gathered to make informed decisions about opportunities for improvement.
Conduct management of workforce training lab and two classroom spaces, which include but are not limited to:
Oversees the daily workflow, scheduling, and operations of the Workforce Program.
Enforces safety and security standards for staff, students, and visitors.
Oversee weekly and monthly course scheduling and logistics throughout the program year. Share weekly schedules with the Green Workforce and Industry Engagement teams, assign instructors to specific rooms, and ensure there are enough staff to deliver scheduled programs.
Supervise three senior workforce instructors, two workforce instructors, and one program coordinator. Mentor instructional staff and seek opportunities to foster their interests. Develop staffing plans to ensure effective use of resources. Conduct performance evaluations.
Identify and maintain a list of independent contractors and support for the program.
Manage relationships and ensure the Green Workforce program is in good standing with the following bodies: EPA, BPI, NABCEP, Urban Green, NYC Dept. of Buildings, NCCER, and potentially more. This includes ensuring all data upkeep and report submission timelines are met in a timely manner to maintain approval status for each.
Collaborate with Sr. Director of Community Engagement on soft skills training needs, job fairs, and job placement activities.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with Solar One Partners.
Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s preferred in education or related fields.
Five to seven years of experience in program management in an educational environment or leading teams.
Five years of teaching experience with STEM, climate action, and/or environmental sustainability. Classroom experience is strongly preferred.
Five years of experience with curriculum development.
Knowledge of anti‑racist and culturally responsive pedagogy is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to work in communities where diverse populations reside.
Demonstrated success in communicating with partner organizations and individuals to build and maintain strong partnerships.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Google Suite, including Calendar, Docs, Spreadsheet, and Drive.
Maturity and ability to work independently.
This position is Full Time / Exempt
Paying $85,000-$95,0000 per year (salary based on experience)
