Job Description Summary

This position focuses on multiple disease states within Allergy and Dermatology Therapeutic areas.

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) role is a field-based, customer-facing, non-promotional medical and scientific position. The MSL’s key objective is to create impact through advancing clinical practice within the assigned territory that leads to improved patient outcomes. The MSL must demonstrate deep therapeutic expertise, understand territory and market influences, engage scientifically with Healthcare Providers (HCPs) and medical experts, manage and develop their territory, and execute all relevant activities in alignment with the medical strategic and tactical plan—while functioning within the Novartis Code of Conduct, Ethics/Compliance policies, and Working Practice documents. The MSL will inform and shape medical strategy through application of a curious mindset to collect impactful and actionable insights, understanding the potential strategic impact of critical insights.

This territory will cover Pennsylvania (excluding Philadelphia). The preferred location for the successful candidate is near a major airport. Candidates must reside within 50 miles of the territory border; relocation is not available.

Role Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  1. The MSL will leverage scientific expertise and market knowledge to establish and build professional relationships and engage with HCPs (including community physicians, pharmacists, medical experts, nurses, and other healthcare professionals) and thought leaders in the geographical area, aligned with the medical strategy.
  2. The primary responsibility is to engage with customers through activities such as emerging data discussions, clinical trial support, uncovering barriers in the patient journey, understanding market dynamics, exploring unmet medical needs, pipeline discussions, disease state and product education, adverse event capture, and medical insights collection across all product lifecycle stages.
  3. Must demonstrate strategic territory vision, ensuring appropriate identification, mapping, and planning of Medical Engagements (MEs) and Key Accounts in collaboration with internal colleagues, including:
  • Identifying key stakeholders influencing the patient journey and disease space throughout the product development lifecycle to establish educational, engagement, and partnership strategies.
  • Identifying partnership opportunities with academic centers, centers of excellence, and systems of care to drive impact.
  • Identifying opportunities to involve HCPs or MEs when specific medical needs are identified, such as publications or clinical trial participation.
  • Collaborating internally with other Novartis stakeholders to advance therapeutic, clinical, or product goals.

Additional responsibilities include providing clinical trial support, collaborating with internal teams, maintaining in-depth knowledge of therapeutic areas and products, adhering to policies and regulations, executing administrative tasks promptly, and proactively driving personal and professional development.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range at the start for a Manager is expected to be between $145,600 and $270,400 annually. Final compensation depends on various factors including location, experience, and skills. The total package may include bonuses, stock units, and other benefits such as medical, financial, and paid time off benefits. Final salary adjustments may occur based on performance and market conditions.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate degree in science or healthcare required; doctoral degree preferred (MD, PhD, DNP, PharmD, etc.).

Experience:

  • 0-3 years in a Field Medical role or as an MSL, or
  • 3-5 years in medical affairs, clinical research, or related fields, preferably in the assigned therapeutic area.

Strong clinical knowledge, understanding of regulations, and adherence to compliance policies are required. Candidates must reside within the territory or within a reasonable commuting distance. Travel of approximately 60-70% is expected.
