Job summary

Avison Young in Washington, DC is seeking a Manager, Market Intelligence to lead a team of analysts researching market trends, demographics, and economic indicators in commercial real estate. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Urban Planning, or a related field; Master’s degree is a plus.
  • 5–7 years of progressive market research/economic analysis, with 2–3 years in a managerial role.
  • Experience in the commercial real estate industry is essential.
  • Proficiency in BI tools and advanced Excel required; experience with CoStar desirable.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and leadership abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of market intelligence analysts with a culture of rigor and excellence.
  • Oversee collection and analysis of market data and translate into clear reports.
  • Monitor competitor activity and identify opportunities and threats.
  • Deliver strategic insights to senior leadership, brokers, and service lines.
  • Create and distribute market reports and thought leadership pieces.
  • Collaborate with brokerage, marketing, and other service lines for customized support.
  • Manage market data platforms and BI tools to enhance efficiency.
  • Continuously improve MI processes and methodologies.

As the Manager, Market Intelligence at Avison Young, you will be a strategic leader responsible for the collection, analysis, and dissemination of market insights that inform our business strategy and give us a competitive edge. You will lead a talented team of analysts, overseeing research into market trends, competitor activity, and economic indicators within the commercial real estate sector. This role is ideal for an experienced and analytical professional with a deep understanding of market dynamics, a proven ability to lead a team, and a passion for turning data into actionable intelligence that drives business growth.

The base salary is aligned with market data and is estimated between $110,000 to $135,000 with the ability to achieve additional compensation through bonus. This salary range reflects base compensation for the position across all US locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by work location and other factors including relevant education/training, experience, and internal equity.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor a team of market intelligence analysts, fostering a culture of curiosity, analytical rigor, and excellence.
  • Oversee the collection and analysis of market data, including property-level statistics, economic indicators, and demographic trends. Translate this data into clear, insightful reports and presentations.
  • Monitor and analyze competitor activities, strategies, and performance to identify market opportunities and threats.
  • Develop and deliver strategic insights to senior leadership, brokers, and service line leaders, helping them to make informed decisions about business development, client strategy, and market positioning.
  • Manage the creation and distribution of regular market reports, thought leadership pieces, and presentations for both internal and external audiences.
  • Work closely with brokerage, marketing, and other service lines to understand their market intelligence needs and provide customized support.
  • Manage the use of market data platforms, business intelligence tools, and other technologies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the market intelligence function.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve market intelligence processes and methodologies to ensure we are providing the most relevant and timely insights.
  • And of course, other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Urban Planning, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive experience in market research, economic analysis, or a similar market intelligence role, with at least 2–3 years in a managerial or supervisory capacity. Experience in the commercial real estate industry is essential.
  • Strong proficiency in business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills are required. Experience with commercial real estate data platforms (e.g., CoStar) is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional analytical and quantitative skills, with a proven ability to interpret complex data and communicate findings clearly.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team. Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem‑solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing market trends.
