Job summary

Western & Southern, headquartered in Cincinnati, seeks an experienced Manager, Investment Operations to lead reconciliation, corporate actions, and day-to-day operational activities for the Institutional business line.

The role focuses on ensuring accurate processing across internal systems, Bloomberg, and custodian banks, while driving process improvements and cross-team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Oversees the daily and monthly reconciliation of transactions, positions, and cash across internal systems, Bloomberg, and custodian banks.
• Leads the daily processing, validation, and communication of domestic and international corporate actions.
• Monitors operational workflows, identifies exceptions, and ensures issues are researched, resolved, and escalated appropriately.
• Develops and implements process improvements that increase efficiency, strengthen controls, and reduce operational risk through technology and automation.
• Establishes and maintains procedures and controls to support accurate reconciliation and corporate actions processing.
• Partners with custodians, portfolio management, trading, compliance, client service, and technology teams to resolve issues and support initiatives.
• Participates in hiring, onboarding, coaching, and ongoing development of team members.
• Supports internal audits, regulatory examinations, and due diligence requests with documentation and SME input.
• Oversees special projects and system implementations to enhance scalability and service quality.

A Day in the Life of a Manager, Investment Operations

The Manager, Investment Operations is responsible for leading the reconciliation and corporate actions functions, including oversight of associates, prioritization of projects, and management of day-to-day operational activities. This role ensures the timely and accurate reconciliation of portfolios and transactions across internal systems and custodian banks, while overseeing the processing of domestic and international corporate actions. The Manager drives process improvements, strengthens operational controls, and partners across the organization to support investment operations for the Institutional business line.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Oversees the daily and monthly reconciliation of transactions, positions, and cash between internal systems, Bloomberg, and custodian banks across approximately 350 accounts held at 30 custodians.
• Leads the daily processing, validation, and communication of domestic and international corporate actions, ensuring timely and accurate application of mandatory and voluntary events.
• Monitors operational workflows, identifies exceptions, and ensures issues are researched, resolved, and escalated appropriately.
• Develops and implements process improvements that increase efficiency, strengthen operational controls, and reduce operational risk by maximizing the effective use of technology and automation.
• Establishes and maintains procedures and controls to support accurate reconciliation and corporate actions processing.
• Partners with custodians, portfolio management, trading, compliance, client service, and technology teams to resolve operational issues and support business initiatives.
• Participates in the hiring process for new associates and leads onboarding, training, coaching, and ongoing development of team members.
• Partners with the Director, Investment Operations on departmental strategy, priorities, resource planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Supports internal and external audits, regulatory examinations, and due diligence requests by providing operational documentation and subject matter expertise.
• Oversees special projects, system implementations, and operational initiatives that enhance scalability, efficiency, and service quality.
