Job summary

Book of the Month is seeking a Manager of Inventory & E-commerce Strategy to own inventory and merchandising strategy and execution. You will blend business creativity with sharp analytics to shape how we merchandise and manage books while remaining hands-on with detailed iteration.

You will lead cross-functional efforts, forecast demand, and build tools and reports in collaboration with Product and Engineering to drive accurate inventory planning and a superior member experience.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in inventory management, product merchandising, or retail analytics.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Experience building new reports or processes to improve performance.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, iterative environment.
  • Creative and able to generate new ideas.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience mentoring junior employees.
  • Love of reading; BOTM experience is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Build new processes integrating merchandising and inventory management to forecast demand.
  • Own a roadmap of testing ideas for merchandising the member experience in the UI.
  • Conceptualize and collaborate with engineering to build tools and reports for inventory forecasting.
  • Own the cycle project plan for inventory tasks across cross-functional teams.
  • Create and share reports tracking inventory to enable quick decision-making.
  • Define an inventory strategy aligned with business objectives.
  • Compile member insights from surveys, social listening, and customer service to drive actions.
  • Communicate insights with Product and Operations to implement new ideas.

Job description

Book of the Month is looking for an ambitious Manager of Inventory & E-commerce Strategy to own our inventory and merchandising strategy and execution. This is an opportunity to combine business creativity with sharp analytical skills to bring together how we merchandise and manage inventory for our books. A successful candidate will have the ability and desire to be hands‑on with a deep level of analytical iteration, while also being able to think at a strategic level and execute operationally with a high degree of accuracy.

What you will do…
  • Build new processes that bring together merchandising and inventory management to accurately forecast demand created by our merchandising strategy.
  • Own a roadmap of testing ideas for how to merchandise the member experience in the UI and work closely with product and engineering to execute these ideas.
  • Conceptualize and work with engineering to build new tools and reports that help accurately forecast inventory needs based on a variety of relevant factors.
  • Owns the cycle project plan for all inventory tasks that organize the cross-functional team members required to develop our order demand forecasts.
  • Embrace an analytical mindset to create and share reports that track inventory and allow us to become more nimble through quick decision‑making.
  • Define a strategy for how we manage our inventory that lines up with clear business objectives.
  • Compile and share out member insights through surveys, social listening, customer service contacts, and other channels to create actionable learnings and next steps.
  • Communicate with cross-functional teams like Product and Operations to share helpful insights and implement new ideas.
About you…
  • 5+ years of experience in inventory management, product merchandising, or retail analytics, ideally at a subscription service.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Experience building new reports or processes to improve performance.
  • Thrives working in a fast‑paced, iterative environment, and ready to work hard.
  • Creative and interested in coming up with new ideas.
  • Strong organizational and problem solving skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Experience managing and mentoring junior employees.
  • A love of reading and contemporary fiction. Current or past experience as a member of BOTM is a strong plus.

Salary range: $100,000 to $140,000
