Position Summary

The Manager, Information Technology Applications leads Sigma’s software development, business systems, application support, and systems integration functions. This position oversees the planning, development, implementation, enhancement, and support of enterprise applications and technology solutions.

The Manager leads internal teams and external vendors in delivering business-focused solutions while ensuring technology investments align with organizational objectives. This role requires a strong understanding of business processes and enterprise systems to identify opportunities for automation, integration, and operational improvement.

Essential Job Functions
  • Analyze business needs and identify opportunities for system enhancements, integrations, process improvements, and automation.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for business application and systems-related initiatives.
  • Lead software development, application enhancement, systems implementation, and integration projects.
  • Analyze business and client requests, define project scope, and develop estimates.
  • Assist in developing return-on-investment analyses and business cases for technology initiatives.
  • Identify the potential implications of projects at both the system and organizational levels.
  • Develop project processes, schedules, resource plans, and budgets.
  • Coordinate the work of developers, business analysts, vendors, consultants, and other project participants.
  • Ensure the quality of development deliverables and oversee testing and user-acceptance activities.
  • Provide regular reporting regarding project progress, risks, challenges, and outcomes.
  • Develop technical and user documentation and ensure users receive effective training.
  • Coordinate application-related activities among IT, internal departments, staff, and outside vendors.
  • Develop and execute system test plans and verify system enhancements, integrations, and fixes.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and departmental managers to ensure application and systems strategies align with business objectives.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise regarding enterprise applications, software solutions, automation platforms, data integrations, and business systems.
  • Evaluate existing business systems and rapidly develop an understanding of operational processes to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Oversee software development lifecycle activities, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, implementation, and support.
  • Manage relationships with software vendors, development partners, consultants, and system integrators.
  • Ensure the successful integration of new business applications and technologies.
  • Support data governance, reporting, workflow automation, and enterprise system optimization efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field and at least 10 years of related experience.
  • Management may consider an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience acceptable for appointment to this position.
  • Demonstrated experience leading software development teams, vendors, consultants, and project resources.
  • Experience managing application development, systems integration, API technologies, and automation platforms.
  • Experience gathering business requirements and translating them into effective technical solutions.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects and balancing competing priorities.
  • Prior experience evaluating technology products and leading “buy versus build” decision‑making processes.
  • Experience with ERP, CRM, GIS, workflow automation, document management, or other enterprise business systems is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycle methodologies, including Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, and hybrid delivery models.
  • Proven ability to quickly learn and understand complex business processes and enterprise systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, including the ability to evaluate business processes and recommend improvements.
  • Knowledge of database concepts, reporting platforms, data integration technologies, and modern application architectures.
  • Proven project management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with executives, business stakeholders, technical teams, and external vendors.
  • Ability to work with internal teams and external vendors to deliver solutions that meet defined requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA).
Additional Requirements
  • Willingness and ability to travel overnight during the week as business needs require.
  • Dependable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and current automobile insurance.
  • Ability to successfully complete a background check, drug screening, and driving‑record check.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to perform frequent, lengthy periods of sedentary work and sit for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to use a computer keyboard, computer monitor, and telephone for prolonged periods.
  • Must have the physical ability to prepare and analyze data and figures, transcribe notes, and view a computer terminal. These activities require close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must have the ability to express and exchange ideas through spoken communication and accurately convey detailed or important instructions, including in group settings.
  • Must have the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and distinguish sounds accurately.
