Job description

Power Make-Ready Design Supervisor
Remote | Joint-Use Utility Pole Design
About This Opportunity

Sigma Technologies is seeking an experienced Power Make-Ready Design Supervisor to lead a team supporting power utility and joint-use make-ready design projects. This is a working supervisor position that combines daily team leadership, technical oversight, performance management, and hands-on project support.

Candidates must have direct experience performing or overseeing power utility make-ready design. General power distribution design experience without make-ready experience will not fully meet the requirements of this position.

The ideal candidate has previously led make-ready designers in a team lead, supervisory, or management capacity. This person must be comfortable establishing priorities, monitoring quality and productivity, mentoring team members, and helping the team meet project requirements and deadlines.

This position may work fully remotely. However, new hires must attend an initial two-week, in-person paid orientation and training period at our main office in Perrysburg, Ohio.

While we may advertise this opening in multiple locations, you only need to apply once.

What You Can Expect To Do
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision for a team of power make-ready designers.
  • Perform technical make-ready design and project work alongside the employees you supervise.
  • Establish team priorities, coordinate assignments, monitor progress, and help ensure project deadlines and performance expectations are met.
  • Review make-ready designs for quality, accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable project requirements, utility standards, and procedures.
  • Provide technical guidance related to joint-use utility poles, attachment clearances, pole loading, communication-space rearrangements, pole replacements, and make-ready recommendations.
  • Support key responsibilities of the Project Manager and Project Engineer.
  • Assist with reviewing and improving project procedures, specifications, standards, workflows, and documentation.
  • Implement approved process and documentation improvements.
  • Track and communicate team performance, project status, workload, risks, and resource needs.
  • Coordinate work and communicate effectively across departments and project functions.
  • Train, coach, and mentor team members to strengthen their make-ready knowledge and professional development.
  • Provide ongoing feedback and manage the performance of assigned team members.
  • Complete and deliver annual performance reviews for assigned employees.
  • Provide input regarding recognition, coaching, and disciplinary action when appropriate.
  • Help the team adapt to changing project requirements, priorities, processes, and customer needs.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Perform other related responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher preferred.
  • 3+ years of power utility make-ready design experience required.
  • Direct experience with joint-use coordination and the development of make-ready recommendations required.
  • Working knowledge of utility-pole attachment clearances, pole loading concepts, communication-space rearrangements, pole replacements, and applicable utility standards.
  • Previous experience leading make-ready designers as a team lead, supervisor, or manager is required for candidates outside the company.
  • Advanced knowledge of utility field data, drafting, design, or related engineering processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, organize, and develop a technical team.
  • Working knowledge of basic personnel-management practices.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to develop plans, organize work, align resources, monitor progress, and ensure performance targets are met.
  • Ability to balance technical production responsibilities with employee supervision and project coordination.
  • Ability to review work carefully and maintain strong documentation and quality standards.
  • Ability to work effectively with team members, project leadership, customers, and cross‑functional partners.
  • Basic understanding of project budgets, staffing, productivity, and financial performance.
  • Ability to learn and operate customer‑specific proprietary software and design systems.
  • Availability during Sigma's core working hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends when project needs require it.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed, including occasional overnight travel.
  • Dependable transportation and a valid driver's license with appropriate vehicle insurance.
  • Ability to successfully complete a background check, drug screening if required, and driving-record check.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform frequent and extended periods of sedentary work, including sitting at a desk or traveling in a vehicle.
  • Ability to use a computer, keyboard, monitor, telephone, and other standard office equipment for prolonged periods.
  • Visual ability necessary to review and analyze technical information, data, drawings, and computer‑based materials.
