Job description

Are you E.P.I.C?!

Do you display Empathy, Passion, Integrity, and Commitment? If YES, join us at HSS where we are passionate about healthcare and provide seamless services to our clients and colleagues.

About the Position:

The Manager in Training – Operations is a structured development opportunity for high-potential, early-career professionals who are interested in building a career in healthcare operations and future leadership.

Through a rotational training schedule, you will gain hands‑on experience across the essential functions of a durable medical equipment (DME) organization. You will learn how HSS delivers a seamless experience for patients, referral sources, and internal teams—from the moment an order is received through equipment delivery, clinical support, billing readiness, and ongoing service.

This role is ideal for a motivated, organized, and service‑minded professional who is eager to learn the business from the ground up, contribute to meaningful projects, and develop the operational knowledge and leadership skills needed to grow into a future management role.

Rotational Operations Development
  • Participate in a structured rotational training program designed to build a broad understanding of HSS operations and the DME industry.
  • Train across core business functions, including customer service, intake and order processing, insurance verification, logistics, warehouse operations, delivery coordination, equipment maintenance, clinical support, and project management.
  • Learn the full patient and order lifecycle, including order intake, documentation requirements, coordination with referral sources, equipment fulfillment, delivery, setup, patient education, and follow‑up service.
  • Observe and progressively support department workflows, standard operating procedures, quality standards, and key performance indicators.
  • Build an understanding of the regulations, documentation standards, privacy expectations, and compliance requirements that support safe and effective DME operations.
Customer Service and Care Coordination
  • Support customer service activities by responding professionally to patient, caregiver, referral source, and internal team inquiries.
  • Learn how to assess customer needs, resolve routine concerns, document interactions accurately, and escalating complex issues appropriately.
  • Develop an understanding of how exceptional service, timely communication, and cross‑functional collaboration impact the patient experience.
  • Assist with order status updates, scheduling coordination, issue resolution, and communication between operational teams.
Logistics and Fulfillment
  • Gain hands‑on exposure to warehouse, inventory, equipment preparation, delivery, and pickup processes.
  • Learn how products and equipment are received, organized, tracked, cleaned, inspected, repaired, staged, and prepared for patient use.
  • Support logistics coordination, including delivery route planning, scheduling, equipment availability, and timely fulfillment of patient orders.
  • Become familiar with safe equipment handling, infection‑control practices, vehicle and delivery standards, and inventory‑management procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve turnaround times, reduce errors, strengthen communication, and create a more efficient workflow.
Clinical Support and DME Knowledge
  • Develop foundational knowledge of HSS products, equipment categories, and services, including how DME supports patient mobility, respiratory needs, sleep therapy, home safety, and independence.
  • Shadow clinical and operational team members to understand how equipment is selected, prepared, delivered, set up, and supported in accordance with patient needs and applicable requirements.
  • Learn the importance of accurate documentation, patient education, coordination of care, and timely follow‑up.
  • Support non‑clinical administrative and operational tasks that help clinical teams provide high‑quality patient care.
Project Management and Continuous Improvement
  • Participate in cross‑functional projects that improve operational processes, customer experience, communication, quality, efficiency, or team performance.
  • Assist with project planning, meeting coordination, documentation, task tracking, follow‑up, and reporting.
  • Gather information, analyze workflows, and provide recommendations for process improvements.
  • Learn to use operational data and key performance indicators to identify trends, measure results, and support informed decision‑making.
  • Present project updates, observations, and recommendations to department and senior leadership.
Leadership Development
  • Work closely with experienced leaders and department managers to build foundational leadership, communication, and business‑management skills.
  • Participate in coaching, feedback, professional‑development opportunities, and regular progress discussions throughout the training program.
  • Learn how to lead through HSS’s E.P.I.C. values of Empathy, Passion, Integrity, and Commitment.
  • Build the adaptability, accountability, problem‑solving ability, and collaborative mindset needed for future leadership opportunities within HSS.
Qualifications for Success:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare administration, operations management, supply chain, project management, or a related field required.
  • Prior experience in customer service, healthcare, logistics, operations, retail, project coordination, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in a leadership role, student organization, volunteer setting, internship, or team‑based environment is a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and work effectively with patients, colleagues, referral sources, and leadership.
  • Genuine interest in healthcare operations, service excellence, and developing into a future leadership role.
  • Strong organization, time‑management, and follow‑up skills, with the ability to manage priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, work collaboratively across departments, and remain calm and professional in occasionally stressful situations.
