The $200 Million Nonprofit Organization in New York, NY is seeking a Finance Manager of Grants & Contracts to oversee the full post-award grant lifecycle for diverse government and private funding sources. This role expects strong grants management, budgeting, and supervisory experience to support mission-driven programs.

Reporting to senior finance leadership, you will partner with program leaders to manage budgets, track expenditures, and ensure compliance with all funding requirements.

  • Provide variance analysis explanations and communicate spending trends to program Managers.
  • Prepare and submit reimbursement requests, vouchers, and financial reports to funding sources.
  • Coordinate month-end close activities and grant-related accruals.
  • Ensure compliance with grant regulations and proper allocation of expenditures.
  • Supervise and develop a team of accounting professionals.

A well-established and growing $200 million nonprofit organization, is seeking a Finance Manager of Grants & Contracts due to an internal promotion. Reporting to senior finance leadership, the Manager of Grants & Contracts will oversee the full post-award grant lifecycle for a diverse portfolio of government and private funding sources. The ideal candidate will possess a strong blend of grants management, financial analysis, budgeting, and supervisory experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the full post-award grants and contracts lifecycle from award setup through final closeout.
  • Partner with program leadership and finance management to establish and maintain budgets for multiple programs and funding sources.
  • Monitor and track grant expenditures to ensure compliance with funding requirements and approved budgets.
  • Perform detailed budget-to-actual variance analysis and prepare explanations for material variances.
  • Communicate regularly with Program Managers regarding spending trends, funding availability, potential overspending, and budget management strategies.
  • Prepare and submit reimbursement requests, vouchers, and financial reports to government agencies and other funding sources.
  • Prepare and process budget modifications and amendments throughout the grant period.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and private grant regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Review expenditures for allowability and proper allocation to funding sources.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close activities, including the preparation of revenue and expense accruals.
  • Collaborate with the accounting team to ensure the accurate recording and classification of grant-related transactions.
  • Prepare supporting schedules, documentation, and audit workpapers for external auditors and funding agency reviews.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance grant accounting and reporting efficiency.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a staff of three accounting professionals.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing the entire post-award grant cycle.
  • Strong experience with government grants, contracts, and reimbursement-based funding.
  • Proven expertise in budgeting, variance analysis, financial reporting, and grant compliance.
  • Experience preparing reimbursement requests and financial reports for funding agencies.
  • Working knowledge of general accounting principles, including accruals, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
  • Prior supervisory or people management experience required.
