This position will be responsible for managing a team of Senior Claims Examiners to Claims Examiners I, II, and Associate Claims Examiners, handling a variety of low to moderately high exposure bodily injury, healthcare, and medical malpractice claims. The role reports to the Director of Healthcare Claims and involves conveying organizational objectives to staff and measuring progress towards goals.

Responsibilities

• Confirm coverage of claims by reviewing policies and supporting documents.
• Direct and monitor assignments of new loss activity for healthcare bodily injury claims.
• Review and approve correspondence and reports, including coverage letters and large loss reports.
• Review and approve reserves and settlements exceeding the authority of handling specialists.
• Make recommendations on reserve changes to senior management.
• Participate in large loss reviews with stakeholders such as Underwriting, Actuarial, and Executive Management.
• Ensure team compliance with Fair Claims Practices and internal objectives.
• Assess performance, provide feedback, and identify training needs.
• Prepare and distribute reports by collecting and summarizing information.
• Assist in budget preparation, expense evaluation, and resource assessment.
• Foster strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.
• Participate in special projects and travel as required.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• JD, RN, or other advanced/technical degrees are a plus.

Certification

• Claims adjuster license or eligibility.
• Industry designations (INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU) or management training.

Qualifications

• At least 10 years of claims handling experience or equivalent.
• 5+ years as a Senior or Executive Claims Specialist preferred.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and customer service skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Teamwork and continuous improvement mindset.

Additional Information

Markel offers a hybrid work schedule (3 days in-office, 2 remote). US work authorization is required; visa sponsorship is not provided.

Compensation

Base salary ranges from $90,500 to $150,900, plus a 25% bonus potential, based on experience and location.
