Job summary

American Water seeks a Manager, Field Operations to lead and coordinate field activities in Indiana. You will oversee construction, operations, and maintenance, manage budgets, and partner with regulators, ensuring compliance and safety across the service territory.

You will drive efficiency, develop cost-effective solutions, and mentor a team, fostering open communication and knowledge sharing across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years supervisory experience in water works or related field.
  • 4 years experience in distribution preferred.
  • Knowledge of the regulated water/wastewater business within the region and applicable regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and control local construction, operations, and maintenance activity within approved budget limits
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with political, civic, and other key stakeholders in the service area, and serve as the operations interface with regulatory agencies, representing company positions in proceedings and hearings
  • Ensure local water operations meet required standards and remain in compliance with regulatory targets
  • Implement standards, targets, policies, and plans that improve operational efficiency, effectiveness, and cost performance
  • Maintain operational integrity across quality, environmental performance, reliability, health, safety, and security
  • Develop and direct cost-effective solutions that meet customer expectations and technical requirements, and promote best practice and innovation across all operational areas
  • Contribute to effective communication by listening and providing constructive feedback; supporting the creation of an open and honest work environment; cascading and sharing knowledge and information relevant to other members of the team and colleagues across the business
  • Implement and foster the coaching and development of employees, including idea generation, within respective functional areas

American Water is currently seeking a Manager, Field Operations to join our Indiana team! In this role you will perform a variety of activities that manage operations in the service territory including site inspections, distributing and scheduling work assignments, working on capital improvement projects, partnering and managing contractors and more.

Key Accountabilities

  • Plan, direct, and control local construction, operations, and maintenance activity within approved budget limits

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the regulated water/wastewater business within the region and the regulations impacting the business as well as applicable regulations, requirements, and trends within water/wastewater business
  • Knowledge of company policies and procedures and management theories, practices, and trends, expert knowledge of process and operational areas (preferred)
  • Knowledge of large water distribution systems

Experience/Education

  • Minimum 4 years supervisory experience in water works or related field
  • 4 years experience in distribution preferred
