Job description

Responsibilities

The Manager Plant Operations position maintains the Medical Center's plant equipment and facilities systems in order to ensure life safety, continuous operations, longevity, and appearance. Responsible for managing maintenance service and repair in the areas of power plant operations and general maintenance. Establishes and updates mechanical, electrical, and plumbing standards for the hospitals. Responsible for the management of retrofit and project modifications. Active contributor to energy management strategies. May be involved in projects and operations of other off‑site facilities. Assists the department director with special projects as assigned. Responsible for Life Safety Management. The position requires the ability to work independently and productively without close supervision and manage multiple assignments in cooperation with all staff members. Encourages teamwork within Supply Chain Support Services and promotes a culture of service excellence.

  • Oversee staff, inclusive of hiring/onboarding, evaluating, managing performance, coaching and developing employees ensuring employee productivity, quality of work, and alignment of goals with our mission, vision, and values. Ensure compliance with all policies, financial stewardship by being accountable for the financial integrity around development and maintenance of department budget. Provide leadership and direction related to the management of service and repair in the areas of Power Plant Operations and General Maintenance.
  • Participate in the preparation of department operations budgets and monitors expenditures to ensure that specified budgetary guidelines are met as demonstrated by audit. Participate in the preparation of Capital Budgets and review Capital Requests for feasibility and adequate funding. Ensure that inspections for licenses and permits occur prior to the expiration date of existing documents, and that new documents are posted immediately upon receipt. Establish positive relationships with construction, administrative and clinical departments, and other departmental/network directors, managers, etc. Uphold city, state, and other building codes. Manage hazardous materials and abatement contractors. Assist in the establishment and carry through facilities engineering policies and procedures.
  • Perform Life Safety Management work which includes but is not limited to: ensuring all fire suppression and all other life safety equipment (fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, dry stems, etc.) are maintained properly and in accordance with applicable laws. Schedule and coordinate mandated inspections of fire alarm systems, fire suppression systems and fire extinguishers. Coordinate with construction manager regarding inspections at active construction areas and assist with safety training of contracted employees. Responsibility for the Fire Department and Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) inspections and compliance in assigned facilities.
  • Participate in the Utilities Management Committee. Ensure reliability of Utility systems through planning, monitoring, and then effecting change as indicated.
  • Coordinate repairs, replacement, and renovation of infrastructure projects. Is part of all on campus construction projects. Participate in the capital planning process with the Pre-Executive Capital Committee, identifying short and long-range needs of the facility. Develop project scope of work, cost estimates, specifications, timelines, project logistics and work accomplishment by either in-house workforce or outside contractor. Coordinate with internal hospital departments such as Safety and Security, Infection Control, and Compliance Officer to ensure that all work is compliant with all applicable healthcare codes and regulations. Coordinate with outside agencies such as OSHA, DHS, City, County, and Federal Governments to ensure that all work accomplished is in compliant with all applicable building or healthcare codes and regulations. Ensure all projects are coordinated with Healthcare Technology Management, environmental services, and security departments. Oversee quality assurance inspections, project logs, inspections budgets, approve all requests for utility shut downs ensuring highest level of safety and customer service.
  • Participate in manager on-call duties, as assigned. Available 24/7 for a week while on duty. Responsible for telephone inquiries and travels to site.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Associates in Facilities Management, Engineering, or a related field Preferred
  • Bachelors in Facilities Management, Engineering, Leadership, or a related field Preferred
Experience
  • 5 years experience in Facilities Maintenance or hospital management Required
  • 5 years experience as a Facilities Maintenance Manager or Facilities Director experience in a hospital environment Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • Drivers License (DL) - License Required
  • Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager Preferred
