Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Manager, Engineering in the Pittsburgh area to provide technical leadership and supervision while maintaining a focused project workload aligned with business needs. You will guide engineers, collaborate with the Director of Engineering, and ensure projects meet quality, cost, and schedule goals.

You will recruit and mentor staff, coordinate across offices, and engage with senior leadership and clients to drive strategic outcomes and a strong project pipeline.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET preferred).
• Minimum 5 years in management within the energy sector.
• Professional Engineering license preferred.
• Strong communication across all levels of the organization.

The Manager, Engineering provides technical leadership and supervision to support project demands while maintaining a limited project workload aligned with overall business needs. This role provides technical oversight and guidance to engineers within the office, works closely with the Director of Engineering to achieve department goals, and helps ensure projects are delivered with a high level of quality, efficiency, and technical excellence.

Responsibilities

• Accomplishes human resource objectives by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures.
• Achieves operational objectives by contributing engineering information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends; determining administrative system improvements; implementing change.
• Provide oversight, technical and procedural direction to ensure proper engineering processes are followed throughout projects.
• Developing, nurturing and maintaining trusted relationships with senior level engineering, managers, and executives with current or prospective clients .
• Ability to coordinate work with engineering offices where shared resources might reside .
• Work with department to cross-train employees on multi-client standards for efficiency and scale, working towards more of a team concept.
• Actively coordinate with Business Development to ensure a more consistent pipeline and backlog of workflow.
• Confidently and comfortably present technical solutions to key customers respond in real time to technical concerns and answer questions in a knowledgeable articulate manner.
• Delegating, planning, prioritizing, and forecast upcoming engineering requirements/needs including non-job-related training schedules.
• Direct and/or participate in client meetings/job site visits to collect or deliver design and engineering data.
• Provide technical support for quotes/estimating as it relates to engineering, project management and client management input
• Review and approve employee time sheets and expense statements for accuracy.
• Ensure project cost, quality, and schedule requirements are met.
• Conduct audits to ensure all design packages follow Qualus ’ QA/QC process.
• Oversee internal training program by identifying staff’s needs and coordinating resources that will perform training.
• Attend Project Kickoff meetings to discuss in detail work scope, project specifications, budgets, schedules, and safety requirements with project team

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering , ABET accredited preferred. Masters degree in Engineering Management or MBA, a plus
• Minimum 5 years in management, within the energy sector. Experience performing substation physical design, protection and control design, and/or power systems studies.
• Professional Engineering license, preferred.
• Strong communication skills able to relate to all levels of the organization
• Knowledge of both business and technical terminology
• Strong analytical and computer skills

• Excellent demonstrated communication (written and verbal), people and organizational skills
• Proven ability to develop and maintain financial plans
• Strong sense of urgency, organization al skills, and attention to detail while at the same time, prioritizing tasks for the most efficiency and to meet any required deadlines
• Ability to independently work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plain and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to independently apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions of practical situations.

Physical Requirements

• While performing duties of this job, employee will be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects and tools up to 75% of the time .
• The employee frequently will be using a computer and smartphone for communication.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus.
