Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to provide end-to-end engineering support for power switchgear, electrical bus, and substations in the electric power system. You will coordinate with customers and engineers to meet design requirements and lead junior engineers.

The role requires a BS in mechanical or electrical engineering, 5 years of experience with product modifications, and proficiency in SolidWorks. Occasional on-site field work and remote support are possible.

Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required.
  • Five years’ experience with product modifications; switchgear knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to communicate with internal, client, and regulatory counterparts.
  • Knowledge of NESC, NEC, UL, IEEE and other applicable codes.

Responsibilities

  • Design complex 3D models and create assembly drawings.
  • Lead field measurements for design modifications.
  • Perform reverse engineering of equipment.
  • Design parts with manufacturing specifications.
  • Support installation and provide remote assistance.
  • Read and interpret technical specifications and proposals.
  • Mentor junior mechanical engineers.
  • Support quoting with material estimates.
  • Coordinate with Qualus locations and recruitment feedback.
  • Attend weekly Production Meetings.
  • Prepare reports and data entry tasks.

Job description

Power your future with Qualus as a Senior Mechanical Engineer. The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for providing support to engineering projects from start to finish ensuring compliance with company practices and procedures, as well as industry standards. Responsibilities include but not limited to developing complex mechanical designs relating to power switchgear, electrical bus, substations, and other electromechanical components within the electric power system. The Mechanical Engineer should also be able to coordinate with customers and engineers to satisfy design requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Design complex models in 3D modeling environments.
  • Create assembly drawings from 3D renderings.
  • Lead efforts in the field to take measurements for design modifications and installations.
  • Perform reverse-engineering of equipment and components.
  • Design parts with specification for manufacture.
  • Learn/perform calculations relative to forces on bus and bracing.
  • Assist with installation of equipment on job site or provide remote support.
  • Read and understand technical requirements presented in specifications and requests for proposal.
  • Take the lead in the development of junior level mechanical engineers.
  • Answers questions and provides support to other Qualus locations.
  • Assist management in recruitment efforts and provide feedback for performance evaluations.
  • Participates in weekly Production Meetings.
  • Provide support to quoting department for estimates on materials and technical requirements of projects.
  • Perform other project related work as assigned.
  • Prepares correspondence and updates various lists/reports, performs data entry functions, copies, scans and faxes documents.
Qualifications
  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering required
  • Five years’ experience with product modifications and customization; switchgear knowledge preferred. Sustained successful performance at the Mechanical Engineer level.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with internal, client and regulatory counterparts.
  • Ability to maintain production in a changing environment
  • Knowledge of NESC, NEC, UL, IEEE, and other applicable codes and standards.
  • Experience in Low Voltage and Medium Voltage electrical equipment design using SolidWorks.
  • Strong computer and communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn and operate client provided programs and systems.
