Job summary

American Airlines in Fort Worth, TX seeks a Senior Engineering Manager for Aircraft Acquisitions to lead a technical team responsible for delivery, modification, acceptance, and entry-into-service of new and used aircraft. You will interface with OEMs, engineering, maintenance, and regulatory bodies to ensure safe, compliant deliveries.

The role requires strong leadership, aviation systems knowledge, and experience coordinating complex cross-functional programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • 5 years of engineering experience in commercial aviation or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of aircraft systems and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with aircraft manufacturers, suppliers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex cross-functional projects.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Lean/Six Sigma (LSS) training.

Responsibilities

  • Review and coordinate approval of aircraft technical specifications, deviations, exemptions, and concessions.
  • Ensure delivered aircraft conform to contractual requirements, company standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead activities supporting new and used aircraft acquisitions.
  • Manage team members and contractors for on-site aircraft inspections at Airbus and Boeing OEM facilities, MRO, and final assembly facilities.
  • Coordinate engineering support for aircraft induction, entry-into-service, and operational readiness activities.
  • Evaluate technical risks and develop mitigation plans to ensure successful aircraft deliveries.
  • Review and disposition technical issues identified during manufacturing, testing, and acceptance activities.
  • Collaborate with Aircraft Configuration Management, Maintenance Programs, Supply Chain, Flight Operations, Technical Operations, and Finance to achieve delivery objectives.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to resolve technical, schedule, and quality-related issues.
  • Ensure compliance with FAA regulations, airworthiness requirements, and company policies.
  • Support FAA conformity inspections, certification activities, and regulatory audits.
  • Verify aircraft records, certification documentation, and delivery packages meet regulatory and company requirements.
  • Develop and implement process improvements for aircraft acquisition and delivery activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve schedule adherence, technical quality, and cost efficiency.
  • Support development of engineering procedures, standards, and best practices.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and technical specialists.
  • Establish performance goals, provide coaching, and foster professional development.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 50% of the time, based on aircraft production and delivery schedules.
  • Availability to support activities outside of standard business hours, including weekends and holidays, to accommodate delivery schedules.

  • The Manager, Engineering – Aircraft Acquisitions is responsible for leading a technical team of individuals with their daily activities associated with the acquisition, delivery, modification, acceptance, and entry-into-service of new and used aircraft. All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering
  • 5 years of engineering experience in commercial aviation, aircraft acquisitions, technical operations, or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial aircraft systems and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience working with aircraft manufacturers, suppliers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex cross-functional projects.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Lean/Six Sigma (LSS) training
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
  • Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering.
  • 10 years of engineering experience in commercial aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aircraft acquisition, technical operations, or related field.
  • Yellow Belt certification from a qualified source for Lean/Six Sigma (LSS) accreditation
  • Experience supporting and following the 8900.1 order as it relates to aircraft delivery or induction programs.
  • Familiarity with Airbus and/or Boeing aircraft delivery programs.
  • Knowledge of aircraft certification, conformity inspections, and airworthiness requirements.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Experience managing engineering teams in an airline or OEM environment.
  • 5 years of experience in leadership role.
Skills, Licenses & Certifications
  • Working knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma principles
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word, Outlook, Excel, etc. Demonstrated ability to manage major projects on schedule
