Job summary

The Freeman Company seeks a Manager of Electrical Ops to oversee all electrical department activities at the San Francisco show site, manage office and union personnel, budgets, and P&L. This full-time, in-person role requires OSHA knowledge, a Bachelor’s degree, five years of related experience, and proven leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and five years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Electrical experience required.
  • Knowledge of accounting systems is a plus.
  • Experience with production venues and/or showsite.
  • Understanding of OSHA requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee Freeman Electrical operations at a branch level.
  • Enforce company policies and procedures daily.
  • Hire, discipline, train, and mentor staff with director support.
  • Maintain relationships with convention centers, hotels, clients, and internal staff.
  • Ensure all jobs are completed effectively and cost-savings oriented.
  • Attend industry events and manage vendor interactions.
  • Approve purchase orders, payables, and staff travel.
  • Oversee payroll controls and expense reporting.
  • Review and analyze job cost sheets and P&L entries.
  • Ensure training and safety programs are maintained.

Summary

It is the responsibility of the Manager Electrical Ops to locally oversees all aspects of the electrical department, but not limited to, office and union personnel, budgets, P&L reports and event production. Develop and maintain interdepartmental relationships. Act as liaison between Freeman and related unions. Professionally interacts with customers, team members, and third-part vendor/partner representatives to provide the highest level of customer service. Promote and maintain a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with all safety policies and regulations, holding self and team accountable, actively communicating safety expectations, and supporting continuous improvement in safety practices.

This position will support our Event & Exhibit Services team. The position follows an in-person schedule working full-time in-office and/or show-site based out of San Francisco, CA.

  • Oversee Freeman Electrical operations on a branch level.
  • Enforce company policies and procedures and see that they are carried out on a daily basis.
  • Work with director to ensure that employees are hired, disciplined, appraised, trained, coached, and mentored as required.
  • Maintain solid relationships with local convention bureau, convention center, hotels, customers, and internal personnel.
  • Ensure all jobs are completed in an effective and cost-savings manner.
  • Attend necessary industry functions.
  • Approve purchase orders, payables and credit memos.
  • Approve all staff expense reports.
  • Approve travel of all employees according to company travel policy.
  • Oversee proper administration of department payroll controls.
  • Conduct meetings with staff to review schedules, implement programs, and coordinate inter-department activities.
  • Review and analyze job cost sheets. Review weekly payroll reports.
  • Review and evaluate all entries of P&L.
  • Ensure that department maintains appropriate training and safety programs.
  • Report commissionable sales figures for hotels, halls, and show management to corporate accounting by end of month.
  • Assist with electrical union contract negotiations and grievances as necessary.
  • Accurately prepare annual department budget and submit to corporate management by deadline.
  • Prepare capital expenditure list and submits for approval.
  • Review long range job planning and assignments with department heads.
  • Check insurance reports on a quarterly basis and reviews all claim reports.
  • Communicate and reinforce company safety objectives, programs, and policies within the team. Ensure employees complete required training and understand their safety responsibilities.
  • Maintain compliance with company safety policies and applicable OSHA regulations.
  • Investigate and document workplace accidents, near misses, and hazards promptly, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Lead by example by encouraging open communication on safety concerns and fostering accountability for maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Track and review safety performance metrics, using insights to support decision-making and corrective actions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma and/or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university; five (5) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Electrical experience required.
  • Knowledge of the accounting systems is a plus.
  • Experience with production venues and/or showsite.
  • Understanding of O.S.H.A. requirements.
  • Working knowledge of workplace safety practices and applicable OSHA requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply and uphold safety policies, ensure compliance with regulations, and contribute to a proactive safety culture that reduces incidents and improves safety outcomes.
