Organization Summary:

United Way of New York City (UWNYC) works with a coalition of trusted partners to unite community power with citywide possibility. Together, we meet today’s most urgent needs while building transformative solutions for tomorrow — striving for health, opportunity, and prosperity for every New Yorker in every neighborhood. Part of the United Way Worldwide system, one of the world’s most recognized charitable brands, we believe that New Yorkers deserve to thrive where they live and envision a future where all New Yorkers have the resources they need to live long, healthy lives in flourishing and resilient neighborhoods. We strive to model our values in all our relationships, both internal and external: Collaboration, Compassion, Integrity, Accountability, and Superior Performance.

UWNYC’s education work follows a place-based model—partnering directly with neighborhoods, schools, and families to design solutions informed by local knowledge, community priorities, and the lived experiences of students. This role leads the implementation and coordination of programs that are responsive to the strengths and needs of each community.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Senior Director of Learning Design & Delivery, the Manager of Education & Workforce Pathways will be responsible for day-to-day management, implementation, and continuous improvement of workforce development and education pathways programs that expand economic mobility and post-secondary access for underserved youth.

Working within the strategy established by the Senior Director, the Manager will translate program goals into effective execution by managing implementation plans, partner relationships, performance tracking, grant deliverables, budgets, and timelines across our Pathways to Possibilities initiative. The manager will serve as a key connector among schools, community-based organizations (CBOs), corporate partners, and internal teams, ensuring programs are well-coordinated, outcomes-focused, and responsive to the needs of NYC youth.

Primary Responsibilities

Program Management & Implementation

  • Manage day-to-day implementation of workforce development and education pathways programs serving primarily high school-aged youth.
  • Translate program strategy and goals into clear implementation plans, timelines, milestones, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Manage programs against grant requirements, performance goals, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to program processes and delivery based on participant, partner, and program data.

Partnership & Stakeholder Management

  • Manage and strengthen relationships with NYC Public Schools, CBOs, corporate partners, volunteers, and other workforce development stakeholders.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned partners, ensuring clear expectations, consistent communication, and accountability.
  • Coordinate cross-functional work and influence colleagues and partners without formal authority to keep implementation on track.
  • Support the development and execution of partnerships that create meaningful opportunities for career exploration, mentorship, workforce development, and post-secondary access.

Performance, Operations & Continuous Improvement

  • Establish and maintain systems to track program implementation, enrollment, attendance, partner performance, outcomes, budgets, and grant deliverables.
  • Monitor and interpret program data to identify challenges, inform adjustments, and support continuous improvement.
  • Manage program logistics, documentation, communications, and reporting to ensure consistent timely, and high-quality execution.
  • Develop grant reports, funder updates, and program summaries that clearly communicate progress, outcomes, and impact.
  • Anticipate operational needs, resolve issues proactively, and surface insights and recommendations to the Senior Director to inform program strategy and future planning.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Youth Development, Social Sciences, or a related field, with at least 3 years of progressively responsible experience managing youth-serving, workforce development, education, or related programs — ideally with experience working with high school-aged youth.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex programs across multiple partners, timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Strong experience managing grant deliverables, compliance requirements, budgets, and performance reporting.
  • Experience with culturally responsive program models focused on career exploration, mentorship, internships, career readiness, or other workforce pathway models.
  • Proven ability to build and manage relationships with workforce development networks, CBOs serving high school students, corporate CSR teams, and other external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional work and influence outcomes without formal authority.
  • Knowledge of NYC’s education, workforce development, and postsecondary landscape.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing reports and updates for funders and senior stakeholders.
  • Highly organized, self-directed, proactive, and resourceful, with strong judgment and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Bilingual (English / Spanish) or multilingual strongly preferred.
  • Willingness to travel across NYC’s five boroughs as needed.
  • Commitment to United Way of New York City’s mission and advancing equity for NYC communities.
