Job Summary
The Manager, Education Programs oversees the Surgery Education Office, working closely with Program Directors, the GME Office, and supervising education coordinators who support residency, clerkship, and fellowship programs. This role manages resident and fellow appointments and reappointments, coordinates department‑wide educational programming, and ensures effective communication across initiatives. The ideal candidate brings substantial experience in program administration, proven supervisory leadership, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while driving process improvements. Strong communication skills and familiarity with graduate medical education systems and accreditation requirements are essential.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education (or related field)
- At least 7 years of related experience, including a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory capacity
Preferred Skills

Job Duties
- Direct administrative strategies and implement systems to enhance the operations of local and national education programs, overseeing all three education areas (UME, GME, CME) and managing a staff of at least six employees (direct and indirect).
- Collaborate with the Vice Chair of Education, Program Directors, and the Graduate Medical Education office to create administrative structures that assess and improve trainee performance; acquire and analyze data, implement web technology, and develop policies and procedures in response to guidelines and regulations; act as project manager for exams and achievement‑related activities.
- Oversee financial planning, monitor and maintain annual operating budgets for residency and multiple fellowship programs, gather development plans, identify equipment purchases, and submit annual budgets for approval; ensure effective management of professional expenses and monitor cash flow.
- Manage staffing: interview and hire staff, review and evaluate performance, develop corrective action plans, handle discipline and grievances, plan staff development, conduct annual evaluations, provide critical feedback, and arrange internal and external training.
- Oversee residency and fellowship recruitment processes; develop training, design and implement systems, coordinate activities of Program Specialists, stay current on systems, and train staff while incorporating faculty input.
- Administer all aspects of university and hospital appointments and reappointments for residents and fellows; ensure timely compliance with appointment and rotation processes at multiple venues outside UT Southwestern.
- Oversee training effectiveness reporting for residency and fellowship programs, design evaluation processes, track competencies against regulatory milestones, and provide analysis and trends to faculty and committees.
- Coordinate educational programming across sub‑specialties and faculty attendees, ensuring smooth scheduling and CME compliance.
- Maintain current knowledge of ACGME general and specialty requirements, accreditation regulations, and recommendations to secure favorable audit outcomes; stay current on American Board policies and implement accurate evaluation and tracking systems.
- Design staff training, implement procedures and systems to maintain compliance, and act as administrative contact for external agencies.
- Oversee volunteer faculty credentialing and privileges (if applicable).
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
