Job summary

Carnival Cruise Line is seeking a Manager, Decarbonization Development to lead energy efficiency and decarbonization projects across our fleet. You will scout technologies, develop concepts, assess feasibility, prepare business cases, and hand over to the Technical Projects team for execution.

You will manage external consultants and vendors, coordinate with Technical Operations and Asset teams, and craft technical and financial justifications for investment decisions.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years in a relevant role (energy management, marine operations, HVAC/refrigeration, energy project management).
  • Seagoing experience in refrigeration/HVAC is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects to completion and meet deadlines.

Job description

This position is responsible for the development of decarbonization and energy efficiency projects for Carnival Cruise Line. The role is responsible for technology scouting, concept development, feasibility assessments, and business case preparation through hand-over to the Technical Projects team for execution. The position manages engineering consultants, equipment vendors, and external partners engaged in project development activities. The position also identifies operational issues and technology opportunities that can be developed into future energy efficiency and decarbonization projects, in coordination with Technical Operations and Technical Asset Teams.

Essential Functions:

Lead the development of decarbonization and energy efficiency projects by identifying, evaluating, and advancing opportunities across the CCL fleet. Responsible for project development from concept generation through feasibility assessment, business case preparation, support of CAPEX approval, and hand-over to the Technical Projects team for execution. Develop project recommendations that support departmental energy efficiency and decarbonization objectives.

Manage R&D initiatives, technology scouting activities, and technical studies for energy efficiency. Coordinate feasibility assessments, engage engineering consultants, equipment vendors, and external partners, and evaluate technologies that improve fleet energy efficiency, emissions performance, and operational effectiveness. Manage external technical resources involved in project development and ensure alignment with CCL technical standards and project objectives.

Develop technical, operational, and financial justifications for decarbonization projects, including fuel savings calculations, emissions reduction assessments, lifecycle cost analysis, ROI evaluations, and preparation of management presentations and CAPEX approval packages. Provide technical recommendations supporting investment decisions and future decarbonization project development.

Support portfolio-level CAPEX planning, and program prioritization; hand over approved projects to the Technical Projects team, which owns project-level CAPEX execution. Support validation of project benefits against approved business cases post-implementation by providing technical assumptions, engineering calculations, and project development inputs.

Identify operational issues and technology opportunities that can be translated into future energy efficiency and decarbonization projects.

Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise in energy efficiency and decarbonization initiatives by working closely with shipboard teams, Asset Team, Technical Operations, Technical Projects, engineering consultants, equipment vendors, and external partners. Define technical requirements, review consultant deliverables, and provide technical support during project execution as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Scope: Strategic The Manager, Decarbonization Development is responsible for building and managing a portfolio of energy efficiency and decarbonization initiatives across Carnival Cruise Line's fleet and technical operations. The role oversees project development from opportunity identification and technology evaluation through feasibility assessment, business case development, and handoff for execution, while coordinating internal stakeholders, engineering consultants, equipment suppliers, and external partners.

Problem solving: This role addresses complex technical, operational, and financial challenges related to reducing emissions and improving energy performance. The Manager evaluates emerging technologies, assesses technical feasibility and business value, identifies solutions to operational inefficiencies, and balances competing priorities to develop practical, scalable projects that support both sustainability and business objectives.

Impact: The position has a direct impact on the company's decarbonization strategy, environmental performance, operating costs, and long-term regulatory readiness. By developing innovative projects and advancing emerging technologies, the role contributes to greenhouse gas reduction goals, fuel and energy savings, operational efficiency improvements, and the creation of long-term business value.

Leadership: The Manager provides project leadership and technical guidance throughout the development lifecycle, influencing cross-functional teams and stakeholders without direct operational authority. The role manages external consultants, technology providers, and vendors, while fostering collaboration across Technical Operations, Technical Asset teams, and other business partners to align project priorities and drive successful outcomes.

Bachelor’s Degree in Energy Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or Marine Engineering.

Master’s Degree a Plus.

Deep working knowledge of HVAC-R, chilled water and service power systems, thermodynamics, and marine auxiliary machinery.

Strong project management skills across the concept-to-CAPEX phase.

Microsoft Office; advanced Excel (lookups, pivots, macros).

Power BI; ability to handle large datasets; programming experience (Python, SQL) preferred.

Basic knowledge of marine bunkering operations, marine fuels, shipboard operations, energy efficiency, technical analysis, numerical/empirical modelling.

Strong knowledge of budgeting and forecasting techniques.

Excellent communication and analytical skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects to completion

Essential experience required

7+ years in a relevant role (energy management, marine operations, HVAC/refrigeration systems, energy project management, design etc.).

Prior seagoing experience as Refrigeration/HVAC Engineer strongly preferred.

Travel:Less than 25% with shipboard travel likely

Work Conditions:Work may require employee to work inside and/or outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.

Physical Demands. Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.

This position is classified as “in-office.” As an in-office role, it requires employees to work from a designated Carnival office in South Florida Monday through Thursday each week. Employees may work from their homes on Fridays. Candidates must be located in (or willing to relocate to) the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area.
