Job summary

The Valley Hospital seeks a coding leader to oversee Inpatient and Outpatient Coding staff in Ridgewood, NJ. You will ensure accurate, timely coding to support documentation and billing, and act as subject matter expert across all coding software.

You will lead audits, summarize findings, update guidelines, and guide the team in researching new coding guidelines to maintain compliance and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credential required.
• Degree in Health Information Management (HIM) preferred with a RHIT or RHIA certification preferred.
• Three to five years experience and expertise in ICD-9 CM Coding, data quality measures, DRG’s and the Prospective Payment System.

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for managing the Inpatient/Outpatient Coding staff. Responsible for all coding related functions. Must be subject matter expert in all software used. Responsible for timely completion of accurate and complete coding to support Valley Hospital documentation and billing requirements. Meets with the coders to summarize PRO/Quality Control Audits, and update any new coding guidelines or changes that may be a result of an audit. Assists the coding team in researching new coding guidelines.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree required. Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credential required. Degree in Health Information Management (HIM) preferred with a RHIT or RHIA certification preferred.

EXPERIENCE

Three to five years experience and expertise in ICD-9 CM Coding, data quality measures, DRG’s and the Prospective Payment System.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Extensive knowledge of ICD-9-CM and CPT coding principles and guidelines required. Extensive knowledge of reimbursement systems required. Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and payor specific regulations and policies pertaining to documentation, coding, and billing required. Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills required. Excellent written, organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills required. Computer literacy required. * Essential Skills: Medical Terminology, ICD-9 CM Coding, Management and interpersonal relations skills. Ability to relate to people and work closely with physicians as well as make decisions. Computer skills and knowledge of Encoder software.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $108,784.00 - $135,990.40 The posted pay range reflects the compensation for a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE)
