Job summary

Valley Health System in Ridgewood seeks a Coding Auditor to perform comprehensive coding audits across professional services, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and consistency. This role supports service-line transitions, vendor oversight, and quality validation, with alignment to a Coding Educator for coordinated education and quality improvement.

The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of professional coding experience, CPC certification, and multi-specialty expertise, plus strong presentation

• Monitor coding quality metrics, audit outcomes, and performance indicators and communicate findings.
• Develop corrective action plans and collaborate with educators, leadership, and providers to improve documentation and coding quality.
• Evaluate outsourced coding vendor performance and ensure adherence to SLAs and quality standards.

Position Summary

The Coding Auditor is responsible for performing comprehensive coding audits to ensure accuracy, compliance, and consistency across all professional services at VMG. This role supports service-line transitions, vendor oversight, and quality validation. Each Coding Auditor will be aligned to a Coding Educator to ensure coordinated education and quality improvement efforts.

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

• Minimum of 5 years of professional coding experience
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) – AAPC required or equivalent
• Multi-specialty experience in professional coding
• Strong presentation and communication skills
• CPC-H (Hospital Outpatient) preferred
• CPMA (Certified Professional Medical Auditor) preferred

Skills

Advanced knowledge of coding guidelines. Strong understanding of professional fee coding, reimbursement methodologies, and revenue cycle operations. Demonstrated expertise in conducting audits and evaluating physician documentation for coding accuracy, completeness, and compliance. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills Experience monitoring coding quality metrics, audit outcomes, and performance indicators, and communicating findings, recommendations, and financial impact to providers, leadership, and operational stakeholders. Ability to develop corrective action plans and collaborate with coding educators, operational leaders, and providers to drive coding quality and documentation improvement initiatives. Experience evaluating outsourced coding vendor performance, monitoring service level agreements (SLAs), and ensuring adherence to quality and compliance standards. Strong organizational, project management, and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple audits, projects, and deadlines simultaneously. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate across departments and present complex information to diverse audiences. Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and handle sensitive compliance-related matters with professionalism.
