MCW’s Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Science seeks a Manager, Clinical Research to lead the human subjects research program, ensuring regulatory compliance and quality across all projects.

You will build processes to launch and grow high-quality research, supervise coordinators, advise investigators, and manage budgets while advancing our department’s research goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.
• Minimum 6 years of relevant clinical research management experience.
• CCRP, CCRC, or ACRP-CP certification required; CITI training within 90 days of hire.

Summary

As a Manager, Clinical Research, you will provide operational leadership for the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Science's human subject's research program to ensure compliance with regulations, policies, and procedures. This role will build processes and infrastructure to launch, execute, and grow high-quality research.

Primary Responsibilities

• Recruit, train, and supervise clinical research coordinators; develop and implement standardized expectations for all subordinates; assess, monitor and evaluate workload and performance.
• Mentor and direct staff to achieve research goals.
• Develop and implement department policies, procedures, and organizational tools to ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.
• Advise department study investigators and staff on administrative and regulatory aspects of human subject research.
• Develop and maintain dashboards that promote transparency and accountability.
• Develop and manage budgets for sponsored clinical trials and investigator-initiated human subject research in collaboration with grants operations coordinator(s).
• Develop, implement, and monitor department research quality improvement activities. Implement and conduct quality control processes to ensure the highest data and research standards.
• Work closely with other departments and external agencies to advance the department's research goals.
• Facilitate pertinent training for Ophthalmology faculty, residents, fellows, and students engaged in research; provide guidance relevant to project and protocol development, oversee the development of relevant reference materials.
• Perform as a study coordinator for select projects.
• Serve on appropriate committees relevant to the advancement of the department's research program, the profession, or the area of research.
• Other duties as assigned.

Appropriate experience may be substituted on equivalent basis.

Minimum Required Education: Bachelor's degree

Minimum Required Experience: 6 years

Preferred Education: Master's degree

Preferred Experience: Experience in an ophthalmology research environment preferred, personnel management experience preferred

Required Certification/Licensure(s): Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP), Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC), or ACRP Certified Professional (ACRP-CP) required. CITI training required within 90 days of hire.

Physical Requirements

Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.

Sensory Acuity

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
