Job summary

CHA Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles seeks a Manager of the Sterile Processing Department to lead 24/7 sterilization operations, ensure adherence to infection control and safety standards, and guide staff through training and process improvements.

The role requires strong instrumentation knowledge, familiarity with regulatory standards, and coordination with perioperative leadership to optimize instrument and equipment usage. Shift: Days, 40 hours weekly, Exempt, FTE 1.0.

Qualifications

Strong background in instrumentation and surgical services.
Familiarity with AAMI, AORN, OSHA, FDA, CDC and regulatory standards.
Working knowledge of computers and software for database management, word processing, and spreadsheets.
Experience in a unionized environment preferred.

Responsibilities

Oversees the processing and sterilization of medical devices, supplies and equipment per regulatory requirements.
Supervises staff and manages training, orientation and continuing education.
Collaborates with Perioperative Services for new instrument and equipment purchases.
Provides data on quality performance measures to the Director Perioperative Services.
Interfaces with Perioperative leadership, staff nurses, physicians and supply chain to improve sterile processing workflows.
Provides leadership to personnel responsible for sterilization across all age groups.

Position Summary

The primary purpose of the Manager of Sterile Processing Department position is to provide 24/7 leadership and management of sterile processing operations for the HPMC. The SPD Manager is responsible for approved infection control, quality assurance and departmental policies and procedures.

Oversees the processing and sterilization of medical devices, supplies and equipment utilized in patient care in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Supervises staff and manages development and technical training programs, new employee orientation and continuing education/proficiency activities.
Collaborates with Perioperative Services administration for new instrument and equipment purchases.
Provides data on quality performance measures to Director Perioperative Services
Interfaces regularly with Perioperative leadership, and staff nurses, physicians, Supply Chain Management, Hospital Support Management and Senior Hospital Leadership as needed to improve processes and workflow related to sterile processing operations.
Provides leadership to personnel who are responsible for sterilization of instruments for all age ranges inclusive of neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

Minimum Education

High school graduate or equivalent
Completion of an approved Central Service Technology course

Preferred Education

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred

Minimum Work Experience And Qualifications

Strong background in instrumentation and surgical services (inpatient and outpatient procedures) required.
Familiarity with AAMI, AORN, OSHA, FDA, CDC and all federal and state regulatory standards required
Must possess working knowledge of computers and software applications for database management, word processing, and spreadsheets.
Demonstrated knowledge of how to accomplish superior performance in a unionized environment is preferred. Additional related experience may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
