Job summary

McLaren Health Care in Grand Blanc, Michigan is seeking a Therapeutic Recreation professional to plan, implement and evaluate activities for facility residents, promoting social engagement and daily living skills. May also manage the facility's volunteer program.

Ensures activities comply with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, and as may be directed by the administrator.

Qualifications

  • Therapeutic recreation license required (state) or licensed activities professional.
  • Two years of college in related field.
  • Two years' experience in social or recreational program, with at least one year in resident activities in health care.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, directs, evaluates, and coordinates activities programs supportive of facility goals.
  • Provides ongoing activities programs to meet residents' physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.
  • Obtains equipment and supplies and ensures accessibility via organized storage.
  • Fosters family and community support of the activity program.
  • Contributes to care planning meetings and committees to improve quality of care.
  • Develops and trains department staff and ensures competency.
  • Directs and coordinates assigned department activities to ensure efficiency, timeliness, cost and quality objectives.
  • Maintains professional knowledge through education and professional networks.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Education

Therapeutic recreation specialist or activities professional licensed by the state
Two years of college in a related area
Two years of experience in a social or recreational program, one of which was full time in a resident activities program in a health care setting

Position Summary: Plans, implements, and evaluates activities for facility residents. Designs programs to encourage socialization, provide entertainment, relaxation, and fulfillment, and improve daily living skills. May also manage the facility's volunteer program. Ensures activities comply with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, and as may be directed by the administrator.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

1. Provides leadership in formulating the goals and objectives of the activity’s programs of the facility. Plans, develops, directs, evaluates, and coordinates activities programs supportive of these goals.

3. Obtains necessary equipment and supplies and provide for their accessibility th r oug h o r g a nize d storage.

4. Fosters family a n d c o mmunity su p port of t he activi t y progr a m (e. g., thr o ugh n ew s l e t t e rs , networking , activitie s w h ic h b rin g fa mi l y m e mb e r s o r m e mb e r s o f th e c o m muni t y int o t h e f a ci l it y , e t c.).

5. Contr i but es t o facilit y eff o rt s t o m a int a i n an d /o r i m pro v e qu a lit y o f c a r e th r o ugh pa r ti c ipation in care p lan m eetings and committees.

6. Develops and trains personnel within the department and reviews and appraises their performance. Responsible for assuring competency of all staff.

7. Directs and coordinates assigned department activities to insure they are efficient, timely, and meet cost and quality objectives; and that all activities and services comply with local, state, federal, and governmental regulations, and laws.

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

9. Performs other related duties as required and directed.
