Job summary

A healthcare provider in St. Augustine South is looking for a Mammography Tech to operate imaging equipment and perform radiologic exams under physician guidance. Responsibilities include ensuring patient safety, documenting examination results, preparing procedure rooms, and performing quality control for images. Candidates are required to have an Associate's Degree in Radiologic Technology or equivalent, ideally with some experience in mammography.   • BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.

Overview

The Mammography Tech operates imaging equipment and performs radiologic exams as ordered by the physician and under the guidance of the physician. Assists in preparing the procedure rooms, as needed. Documents duration of examination and results of tests/examinations in patient's chart.

Responsibilities
  • Accurately performs radiological exams to department standards including technique, positioning, protocols and administration of contrast material.
  • Assures quality of image presented to radiologist for interpretation and consults with doctor to obtain optimum exam.
  • Informs patient about procedure and provides post procedure instructions. Prepares consent forms and other demographic data for patients receiving treatment. Coordinates both in and out patient studies and assures that procedures are billed properly.
  • Assures safety of patient including pregnancy identification and shielding documentation; reviews safety questionnaire prior to scanning patient. Always uses proper lifting techniques as demonstrated in annual body mechanics in-service.
  • Provides efficient transportation for patients both to and from requesting service areas. Uses wheelchairs, stretchers, beds in an appropriate fashion. Assists patient in and out of wheelchair and stretchers using proper wheel locking procedures. Cleans wheelchairs and stretchers and reports needed repairs to supervisor.
  • Prepares contrast material, verifies physician order, and injects patients for I.V. procedure using proper sterile technique. Uses table pads, sheets, side rails/locks, to assure patient comfort and safety. Accurately utilizes initial side markers. Performs phantom films regularly.
  • Coordinates the selection and use of supplies, minor equipment, X-Rays, reports, and files between departmental units as needed and maintains an efficient workflow.
  • Assists with biopsy localizations, demonstrates responsibility for biopsy specimens, and correlates biopsy report to Mammo report.
  • Speaks to community groups regarding mammography and promotes self-examination. Trains new hires or existing staff as assigned.
  • Collaborates in departmental and hospital wide QA/QI program as requested.
Qualifications

Education / Training

  • Associate's Degree in Radiologic Technology

AND/OR

  • Diploma/Equivalent in Radiologic Technology

Additional Information:

Completion of formal Radiologic Technology training in an AMA approved school qualifying for registry as an American Registered Radiologic Technologist.

Experience Requirements

  • 0 - 1 year mammo Or Rad Tech experience.

Preferences:

1 year of Mammography experience

Certificates/Licenses/Registration

  • Radiologic Technologist License in Florida
  • American Registry of Radiological Technologist ARRT (M)
  • American Registry of Radiological Technologist ARRT (R)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

Additional Information:

BLS, provided by my American Heart Association (AHA), required within 30 days of hire
