Job summary

Ohio Valley Surgical Hospital in Springfield, OH, seeks a Mammography Technologist (PRN) to support breast health imaging with the Breast Care team. You will operate mammography units and assist with stereotactic and ultrasound-guided biopsies under physician supervision, ensuring quality and safety.

You will follow MQSA guidelines, maintain QA standards, and provide patient education on procedures and breast health, contributing to departmental training and community education initiatives.

Qualifications

• ARRT-(R)(M) certification with CEUs
• ODH license with MQSA/ACR CEUs
• CPR certification and renewal as required
• Minimum 1 year of mammographic imaging experience
• Sensitivity to patient and family needs in a healthcare environment
• Knowledge of MQSA accreditation requirements and related standards

Responsibilities

• Operate mammography unit including stereotactic biopsies and ultrasound-guided procedures under physician direction
• Follow established imaging quality standards and ensure staff compliance
• Adhere to MQSA accreditation guidelines and related QA measures and training
• Apply radiation safety measures to protect patients and staff
• Educate patients about pre/post-procedure expectations and breast health
• Assist in development of patient educational materials and staff/community education
• Participate in professional development through meetings and courses
• Demonstrate awareness of patients’ holistic needs and adapt care accordingly

The Mammography Technologist will work with the Breast Care team for the care of patients with actual or potential breast health concerns in conjunction with Ohio Valley Imaging Center. The Mammography Technologist reports to the Breast Nurse Care Coordinator.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Operate mammography unit to include radiologist assisted procedures such as stereotactic biopsies, ultrasound guided breast biopsies, cyst aspirations and needle localizations or produce images of the breasts for diagnostic purposes under direction of a physician.
• Follow established quality standards for imaging techniques and ensure staff compliance.
• Follow established guidelines MQSA (and other) accreditation, including all associated quality assurance measures, policies, employee training and ongoing competence training.
• Use radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
• In cooperation with Breast Nurse Care Coordinator, follows established guidelines pertaining to the following:
• Resource to women with breast health concerns, i.e., teaches breast self-examination, answers questions about breast health concerns and provides breast health lectures as needed.
• Provides education to patients concerning what can be expected prior to, during and after diagnostic and treatment procedures.
• Provides input towards the development of patient educational materials.
• Provides staff and community education as required.
• Participates in professional growth and development opportunities by attending various meetings, conferences, and courses.
• Demonstrates awareness of patient’s needs as a total person (physical, spiritual, emotional, intellectual, cultural, etc.), consistent with patient’s age and development level.
• Demonstrates knowledge of and follows Departmental and Ohio Valley guidelines related to guest services activities in the performance of the duties and responsibilities of the position.
• Adheres to and follows Ohio Valley’spolicies, procedures, and compliance Program.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• ARRT-(R)(M) certified (current and active, including required CEU’s).
• ODH License (current and active, including required CEU’s for MQSA/ACR accreditation)
• CPR certified.
• At least one (1) year of experience in mammographic imaging.
• Demonstrates sensitivity toward unique patient and family needs associated with this environment.
• Understands MQSA accreditation possesses the knowledge to meet the requirements of program.
• Is able to adequately perform the Essential Functions of this Job; as well as being capable of meeting its Functional and Environmental Requirements
