Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a Mammography Technologist to provide screening and diagnostic imaging services in Birmingham, Alabama. The role involves operating mammography equipment, positioning patients, and ensuring high-quality imaging for diagnostic interpretation.

You will educate patients about the importance of regular breast health, adhere to radiation safety guidelines, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • BLS within 30 days of hire date.
  • Bone Density Certification may be required within 6 months.
  • CCI/ARDMS/ARRT credential required prior to hire.

Responsibilities

  • Operate mammography equipment and position patients accurately.
  • Explain procedures and educate patients on mammography importance.
  • Develop and evaluate film for density, contrast, and sharpness.
  • Follow radiation safety procedures and submit high-quality images to PACS.
  • Ensure equipment functions properly and report malfunctions.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly department and related areas.
  • May perform DEXA bone density scans if applicable.

Job Description

Provide mammography imaging services.

  • Operate equipment and perform various mammography related procedures. Prepare and position patients and selects anatomic and technical parameters accurately.
  • Explain procedures and educates patients about the role of regular mammography in preventive breast health.
  • Develop and evaluate the film for technical quality such as density contrast, definition, and distortion.
  • Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Ensure prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history).
  • Ensure equipment is properly functioning. Report potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in department
  • May perform bone density scans using DEXA equipment, if applicable.
Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Bone Density Certification may be required within 6-months of hire or transfer date (if applicable)
  • One or more of the following required:
    • Cardiographic Tech credentialed from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date
    • Medical Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
    • Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from the American Registry ofRadiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • Graduate of an accredited educational program in Radiologic Technology required
