Description

Under the supervision of the Supervisory Radiologic Technologist, the Mammography Technologist independently operates mammography equipment. This role involves managing the daily operations of the mammography section, applying strategies to reduce health risks associated with breast cancer, and maintaining confidentiality of all privileged information. The technologist provides or obtains necessary expertise from specialists and upholds the principles of WIHCC’s Vision, Mission, and Values.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Gain patient cooperation by reducing anxieties, explaining procedures, and answering questions.
  • Develop and evaluate breast cancer screening programs.
  • Ensure accuracy, quality, and performance of mammography procedures.
  • Perform mammography by positioning breasts, adjusting equipment, instructing patients, and capturing images.
  • Adhere to all quality assurance standards and maintain the cleanliness of the mammography suite.
  • Interpret exam requests, perform exams to optimize diagnostic clarity, and identify when additional views are necessary.
  • Determine the need for specialized views independently.
  • Manage breast health cases and tracking.
  • Conduct health record audits and follow-up with patients as required.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot mammography equipment, and manage supplies.
  • Develop breast imaging protocols and maintain a database for case management.
  • Build relationships with agencies involved in breast cancer prevention and control.
  • Follow all confidentiality, ethical, and organizational policies.
  • Interact professionally with patients, staff, and vendors, demonstrating cultural sensitivity.
  • Comply with HR requirements and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree and three years of clinical breast imaging experience.
  • Accredited Radiologic Technology program completion and current ARRT certification in Radiography and Mammography.
  • Continuing education and experience as required by MQSA and ARRT.
  • CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of bilingual skills in English and Navajo preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and background check clearance.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of mammography principles, breast anatomy, and imaging techniques.
  • Understanding of radiation safety, medical terminology, HIPAA, and computer skills.
  • Dependability, effective communication, customer service, interpersonal skills, multitasking, adaptability, and teamwork.

Physical Demands:

Must regularly walk, sit, handle equipment, reach, talk, hear, and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.

Work Environment:

Work may occur in office or outdoor settings with exposure to risks like bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, and dangerous equipment. Evening and weekend hours, extended shifts, and irregular hours may be required.

Preference: Absolute preference to qualified Navajo applicants; if none, then qualified American Indian applicants.
