Job summary

MyMichigan Health is seeking a Mammography Technologist to produce high-quality mammograms with accurate positioning and technique. The role includes performing specialized procedures such as needle localizations and stereotactic biopsies, while maintaining daily quality assurance and radiation safety standards.

The position requires ARRT radiography and mammography credentials, BLS, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced setting within the radiology department.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in radiologic technology or healthcare field.
  • ARRT radiography certification or registry eligible.
  • ARRT mammography certification within six months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 1 month of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Produce high quality mammographic images with proper positioning and technique.
  • Perform needle localizations, specimen radiography, spot magnifications and stereotactic breast biopsies as needed.
  • Conduct daily quality assurance testing and assist with upkeep of equipment.
  • Assist in maintaining radiation safety for patients and staff.

Job description

Summary

This position is responsible for producing high quality mammographic images and all special examinations necessary, i.e., needle localizations, radiography of specimens, spot magnifications and stereotactic biopsies. This position is also responsible for performing quality assurance activities as established by the department and regulatory agencies in a timely and accurate manner.

Responsibilities

(70%)* Performs high quality mammographic examinations with accurate positioning and proper technique by following established standards. Minimizes radiation exposure to patients and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques.

(10%)* Demonstrates proficiency in special procedures: needle localizations, radiography of specimens, spot magnification views and/or stereotactic breast biopsies, and Bone Densitometry testing (DEXA) if done in their department.

(10%)* Shares in daily work related responsibilities such as putting away supplies, stocking linen, and cleaning equipment.

(10%)* Ensures operation of mammography equipment by completing preventive maintenance instructions; troubleshooting equipment; calling for service. Performs daily quality assurance testing and monitoring established by the department in a timely and accurate manner.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Hasknowledge of and adheres to guidelines and standards of regulatory agencies.
  • Serves on teams which examine and decide policy regarding mammography and mammography related procedures, when asked.
  • Documents patient mammogram services by completing patient record charting
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in continuing educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • All other duties as assigned
Certifications and Licensures

ARRT - Reg Radiologic Technologist Required Equivalent Experience - Knowledge of radiologic technique as normally acquired through completion of a JRCERT approved school of Radiologic Technology, or equivalent. ARRT registered in radiography.

ARRT M - Mammographer Required Equivalent Experience - Obtain ARRT mammography certification within one year of hire date

BLS - Basic Life Support Required Equivalent Experience - Within 1 month of hire or transfer

Associates Degree

Equivalent Experience:Degree in Healthcare Related Field. Knowledge of radiologic technique as normally acquired through completion of an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology. ARRT registered or registry eligible in mammography within 6 months of hire required.

Ability to work independently to produce desired results.

Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.

Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.

Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.

Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).

Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.

Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.

Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.

Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

Physical Demand Level:Light. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 10 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls.
