Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited radiology program.
• ARRT registry and state license required.
• BLS certification required.
• Ability to educate patients about procedures and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Review patient history and orders for accuracy.
• Prepare and administer contrast media and medications within scope.
• Monitor patient condition and respond to changes.
• Assist with interventional procedures including needle localization.
• Set imaging exposure factors and parameters.
• Prepare equipment and perform quality control; troubleshoot as needed.
• Position patients and perform imaging, biopsies, stereotactic procedures.
• Ensure MQSA compliance and accreditations.
• Analyze image quality and take corrective actions.
• Enter and report scan results.
• Stay current with BiRad guidelines and patient follow-ups.

How You'll Contribute

A Mammography Technologist who excels in this role:

• Reviews patient history and physician's orders. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.
• When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice.
• Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate.
• May assist physician with performing interventional procedures including fine needle aspiration and needle localization.
• Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters.
• Prepares equipment and supplies. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.
• Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s), biopsies, stereotactic and special procedures.
• Participates in ensuring compliance with the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) regulations and applicable accreditations.
• Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results. Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure.
• Enters, transmits and reports scan results
• Keeps current with BiRad and follow-ups on all patients.
