Performs mammography procedures in accordance with established professional and departmental standards and procedures.
Demonstrate a complete working knowledge of all mammography equipment within the department. Performs all routine mammographic/stereotactic procedures as assigned. Demonstrates anatomy under investigation through proper patient positioning. Obtains patient history and clinical data for correlation with the radiographs. Adjust technical factors in proportion to patient while minimizing radiation. Provides radiation protection to patient, staff and self according to prescribed safety standards. Reviews consultation request, checking for special instructions from requesting physician, and consults with the radiologist as necessary. Pleasantly greets patients, confirming their identification and introducing yourself. Completely explains examination procedure to the patient and their family if present. Performs visual preventive safety inspections, completes tube warm-up procedures for mammography room. Identifies problems and communicates to immediate supervisor. Reviews exposed radiographs for proper positioning, technique and identification. Maintains necessary inventory of supplies for assigned room, rotating stock in an orderly fashion, and eliminating outdated items. Recognizes emergency situations, initiates code procedures and administers first aid or CPR as needed. Assures access to care. Adds on exams whenever possible, coordinating efforts with other departments. Seeks alternatives when requested add on is not possible. Verifies correct order entry and supply charging. Performs routine Mammography Quality Control. Understands and follows all ACR and MSQA regulations. Corrects problems before any clinical images are done. Contacts service when limits are exceeded.
