Job summary

Elmhurst Public Library in Elmhurst, IL is seeking a maker space assistant to help patrons use equipment and software, and to design and lead creative classes. You will troubleshoot devices, assist with project setup, and support ongoing maker programs.

The role requires one year of customer service, comfort with computers and design tools, and a readiness to learn Adobe Illustrator, TinkerCAD, Cricut Design Space, and makerspace equipment. Evening and weekend shifts are possible.

Qualifications

• One year of customer service experience.
• Strong knowledge of computers, Office 365, and the internet.
• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
• Familiarity with and an aptitude to learn creative software, including Adobe Illustrator, TinkerCAD, and Cricut Design Space
• Familiarity with and an aptitude to learn makerspace equipment, including sewing machines, sublimation, Cricut machines, and heat presses

A TYPICAL DAY MIGHT INCLUDE

• Downloading patron 3D print files, setting up the 3D print software, and starting the 3D printer.
• Helping a teacher determine the best method for putting their school logo on t shirts.
• Troubleshooting a jammed button maker with a child and their caregiver.
• Taking equipment reservations over the phone or via the online reservation system.
• Preparing to teach a sewing class by organizing materials and testing out different stitches.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

HOURLY RATE & SCHEDULE

• $18.34 - $22.93 per hour
• Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
• Wednesdays, 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
• Every third weekend:
  • Saturday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, 1:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
