Job summary

YMCA of Greater Rochester is seeking a makerspace assistant to help plan and implement age-appropriate STEM/STEAM activities for children. You will work with the lead coordinator to prepare supplies, maintain the studio, and promote safety while engaging participants in healthy, safe, and fun activities.

The position requires 18+ years old, experience in STEM/STEAM, and strong interpersonal skills. CPR/AED and First Aid certifications should be obtained within 60 days of employment.

Qualifications

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Experience in STEM/STEAM, engineering or robotics.
• Maturity, responsibility, and sincere interest in working with people.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Knowledge of age-appropriate activities.
• Must have or obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certifications within 60 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and implementing age-appropriate curriculum for the makerspace.
• Assist lead coordinator with supplies and materials for studio and programs.
• With the lead, maintain and organize the program area and materials.
• Observe and promote safety and security procedures.
• Communicate with the lead coordinator about programming.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with participants, staff and volunteers.
• Respond to emergencies as per training and circumstances.
• Attend required trainings, meetings and YMCA events.
