Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College’s Propeller Makerspace in Columbus seeks a Lab Technician to maintain and support equipment, provide member instruction, and help manage safety, inventory, and day-to-day operations. The role collaborates with Ivy Tech staff and Propeller leadership to enable hands-on learning, workforce development, and community engagement.

Pay rate is $16/hour. Part-time position with benefits for eligible staff.

Qualifications

• Requires a certificate or technical credential in a technical field related to the position.
• Ability to safely operate and troubleshoot tools, machinery, and equipment.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; able to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, calibrate, clean, and troubleshoot makerspace equipment.
• Assist with installation and setup of new equipment and technology.
• Perform basic repairs and coordinate outside repairs when needed.
• Develop and maintain a preventive maintenance program for all equipment.
• Create and maintain an accurate inventory of equipment, tools, materials, and supplies.
• Submit warranty cards and maintain copies of warranty documentation.
• Maintain a library of manuals and resources for equipment.
• Provide safety orientations and equipment training to members.
• Offer instruction on safe and proper use of equipment to makerspace members.
• Assist members with basic equipment questions and troubleshooting.
