Job summary

Deerfield Public Library invites you to join its MakerSpace internship, helping patrons of all ages in a fast-paced environment where creativity thrives. You’ll work with cutting-edge equipment, support events, and learn from experienced staff while delivering outstanding customer service. This internship runs Oct 12, 2026 through Dec 15, 2026 at the Deerfield Public Library in Lake County, approx.

20 hours per week. Schedule: Mon, Tue, Fri, Sat 12:00–5:00 pm.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Active MLIS/MLS students encouraged to apply.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Robust computer and technology skills, experience with MakerSpace technologies.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a team.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the MakerSpace staff to assist in all aspects of the daily operation and use of the MakerSpace.
• Provide excellent customer service while working at the MakerSpace service desk.
• Answer phone calls and help patrons with both scheduled and walk‑in projects.
• Assist patrons and staff with MakerSpace related equipment, software, and activities.
• Operate and provide basic troubleshooting for MakerSpace equipment.
• Assist Library staff with planned programs and events, including setup tasks and guiding patrons.

Our dynamic MakerSpace is a busy hub for both patrons and staff, offering a wide variety of programs, workshops, and creative projects every day.
