William & Mary is seeking a Makerspace Engineer to lead hands-on training, supervise student engineers, and oversee fabrication equipment in the university’s makerspace. The role focuses on teaching, safety, and operational excellence in a dynamic academic environment.

The successful candidate will deploy workshops, mentor projects, and collaborate with faculty and staff to advance innovation and experiential learning across disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience operating and maintaining fabrication equipment.
  • Knowledge of shops, laboratories, or makerspace safety practices.
  • Ability to teach, train, or mentor students, staff, or customers in the safe and effective use of technical equipment.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver makerspace workshops and hands-on training.
  • Mentor students on projects and supervise student engineers.
  • Support daily operations and maintenance of fabrication equipment.
  • Develop safety procedures and SOPs for the makerspace.
  • Assist with budgeting, procurement, and equipment lifecycle planning.
