  • Assists with special fundraising campaigns and appeals as needed.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Major Gifts Officer contributes to the Martha O’Bryan Center’s strategy for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding high-capacity individual donors and legacy giving prospects. This position manages a portfolio of major donors and prospects, develops individualized engagement strategies, and partners with the Vice President of Development, executive leadership, and selected board members to secure significant philanthropic investments that advance Martha O’Bryan Center’s mission.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manages and grows a portfolio of major donor prospects, developing and executing cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.
  • Prepares proposals, gift opportunities, and briefing materials, and partners with leadership on top-tier donor relationships.
  • Builds and tracks a planned giving pipeline while maintaining accurate donor records and next steps in the CRM and contributes to forecasting and revenue reporting.
  • Meets annual major gift revenue goals, maintaining active portfolio movement, and completing a regular cadence of donor visits, calls, and proposals.
  • Focuses on increasing donor retention and upgrades and establishing measurable progress in planned giving outreach and commitments.
  • Assists with special fundraising campaigns and appeals as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, or a related field.
  • Significant experience in fundraising, relationship management, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated success in major gift cultivation and solicitation.
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge or a comparable donor database/CRM required (1+ years preferred).

  • Ability to plan and coordinate logistics for events involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Documents regularly, thoroughly, accurately, and completely.
  • High level of detail and accuracy.
  • Exercises good and consistently fair judgment, courtesy, and tact in dealing with the staff and public in giving and obtaining information.
  • Computer literate, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), email and the internet.

  • Occasional evening and weekend work required to support community events.
  • Ability to lift and carry event materials and supplies up to 25 lbs.
  • Requires occasional evening or weekend work for donor meetings and events, as well as local travel for relationship-building activities.
