Job summary

GE Vernova is seeking a Field Services Technician (Major Component Upgrades / UFS) to join a team or work independently on large component replacements across the United States. You will troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems on GE Vernova fleet, lead field crews, coordinate contractors, and support repair engineers at customer sites, often within tight schedules and safety requirements.

Travel will be domestic and international, with 100% travel expectations, and you must be comfortable

Qualifications

  • HV experience or electrical HV background required.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Excellent English communication skills (speaking, reading, writing).
  • Familiar with test equipment and testing procedures.
  • Computer literate and able to use basic software and reporting tools.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site technical direction, leadership during installation, startup, commissioning and maintenance.
  • Prepare outage scope documentation from engineering drawings and instructions.
  • Troubleshoot electromechanical systems; perform routine maintenance checks on equipment.
  • Complete administrative tasks: write technical reports, order materials, secure quotations, prepare status reports.

Role Summary/Purpose:

The Major Component Upgrades / UFS (Universal Fleet Solutions) Field Services Technician will work on a team or individually, to assist on large component replacement, troubleshoot mechanical and / or electrical repairs on non-standard GE Vernova fleet. Direct and coordinate crews, oversee contractors, support repair engineers and repair wind turbine generators throughout the United States on customer owned utility and industrial facilities.

Essential Responsibilities:

Field Service Technicians provide on-site technical direction, hands on service and leadership during installation, startup, commissioning and maintenance to customer owned utility and industrial facilities. Prepare job planning documents that define in the scope of outage to be performed through engineering instructions, drawings, and process instructions;

  • Communicate effectively with Management and Colleagues utilizing customers' CTQ (Critical to Quality needs) in job planning and execution;
  • Provide leadership to skilled labor performing work on customer sites;
  • Troubleshoot and provide routine maintenance checkout for wide range of equipment such as power transformers, switchgear, protection relays, control systems, turbines, motors and generators;
  • Troubleshoot electromechanical operations and maintenance problems in the Power Delivery field;
  • Perform administrative functions;
  • such as writing technical reports, ordering materials, securing quotations, preparing job status reports, reports to customers, time sheets, and expense sheets in a complete manner on timely and thorough basis;
  • Exercise good judgment in controlling costs and expenditures of Company fund;
  • Maintain strong safety mindset to assure the executed work reflects the technical requirements within TGE safety standards.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Appropriately qualified Electrical Fitter with proven HV experience or Electrical Technician / Technologist or Electrician with proven HV experience;

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Familiar with test equipment and testing procedures;
  • Computer literate;
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent English speaking, reading and writing skills.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally 100% of the time, per job requirements.
  • Ability and willingness to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Ability and willingness to handle repetitive weight - 50 lbs.
  • Ability and willingness to climb towers 300+ feet in height
  • Ability and willingness to work in all weather conditions
  • Ability to meet specific OSHA weight limits of 250 to 300lbs maximum
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematic drawings
  • Ability and willingness to read, interpret technical manuals, procedures, and regulations
  • Ability to write reports, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure
  • Ability and willingness to be available for rotation shift schedules 24 hours, seven days a week

Desired Characteristics:

Proven experience in leading field service team;

  • Technical Certification in Wind Energy or Electrical / Electronic field
  • Multi-vendor brand or experience such as Vestas, Siemens or Gamesa is preferred
  • Electrical, mechanical, and/or hydraulic experience
  • Major component exchange experience
  • Experience using hydraulic power tools
  • Experience with heavy equipment required for facility maintenance with a working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements
  • Proficient computers skills in Excel, Word, Web Tools
  • Strong customer service mindset
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Willingness to travel;
  • Flexibility required;
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of personnel at all levels inside and outside of the Wind Farm
  • Ability and willingness to take initiative, and work without direct supervision
