53 introduces an elevated blend of Asian cuisine with a contemporary edge in a chic lifestyle setting. Featuring an exquisite marriage of Asian flavors and unique dishes, 53 is a New York restaurant conceived by Founder Ahmass Fakahany and the team behind NYC dining destinations and Wine Spectator Award winners, Marea and Ai Fiori.

The menu is spearheaded by acclaimed Singapore-born Chef Akmal Anuar, who began his culinary journey in his parents’ hawker stand in Singapore, led one of Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants (Asia’s No. 1), and created some of the top contemporary Asian restaurants in Dubai.

Designed by ICRAVE in the heart of Midtown at 53 W 53rd St., the three-story space features a stunning modern dining room, bustling by day and glowing by night, as well as an intimate private dining experience, all underneath MoMA’s new extended wing. In the spirit of this iconic location, the globally renowned Friedrich Petzel Gallery collaborates in a curatorial partnership to showcase an exciting rotating installation art program throughout the restaurant

Who We're Looking For

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Maitre'd to join our dynamic team at 53 Restaurant. This role is pivotal in creating a memorable first impression for our guests and ensuring seamless front-of-house operations in collaboration with the management team. Be part of a truly unique restaurant and work alongside hospitality pioneers in a fine dining environment.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Greet and welcome all guests warmly and professionally, setting the tone for their dining experience.
  • Manage reservations effectively, including accommodating special requests and coordinating seating to maximize service efficiency.
  • Supervise and support the host team, ensuring consistent guest service and adherence to standards.
  • Collaborate with the management team to maintain a smooth flow of operations, including communication with the kitchen and floor staff.
  • Handle guest inquiries, complaints, and feedback promptly and professionally to ensure satisfaction.
  • Monitor and maintain the appearance of the entrance, lobby, and overall guest reception areas.
  • Build strong relationships with regular guests and foster a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Maintain knowledge of the menu, specials, and events to provide accurate information to guests.
  • Assist in the training and development of the host team to ensure excellence in service delivery.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Maitre'd, Host Manager, or similar role in a high-volume, fine-dining environment.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with a warm, professional demeanor.
  • Proficiency in reservation management systems (e.g., OpenTable, Resy) and POS systems.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to remain composed and effective under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • A polished appearance and professional attitude.
  • Flexible schedule and open availability to meet the needs of the business, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to stand, walk, and move about for extended periods, as well as occasionally lifting up to 25 lbs.
