Job description

The Maintenance Technician III is responsible for performing and leading a variety of skilled maintenance, repairs, and construction tasks requiring trade skills such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, painting, masonry, concrete, asphalt, and landscape management. Facilities maintained may include buildings, bridges, parks, and trails. The role involves ensuring that the County’s facilities, grounds, and equipment are in good operating condition, well maintained, and safe for public and employee use. The position requires leading and performing tasks for crews or staff.

This is an essential employee role, with potential requirements to work during office closures due to weather, disasters, or emergencies, including outside normal hours, weekends, and holidays. A valid driver’s license and completion of a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) permission form are required. A criminal background check is also mandatory.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and perform maintenance checks on all buildings and facilities, indoors and outdoors, including repairs to structures, restrooms, offices, pavilions, and garages.
  • Lead and execute repairs requiring skilled trades such as electrical, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, painting, and HVAC maintenance.
  • Manage landscape and grounds maintenance, including mowing, planting, tree removal, and trail repairs.
  • Perform masonry, asphalt, and concrete repairs, as well as metal work and welding.
  • Set up and break down for special events, ensuring safety and proper tool use.
  • Operate and maintain tools and equipment, including heavy machinery and excavation tools.
  • Assist with budget, scheduling, record-keeping, and inventory management.
  • Coordinate safety protocols and supervise safety performance of crews.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as needed, including snow and ice removal and pesticide application certification.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED, with trade school or equivalent training and experience in relevant trades.
  • Minimum five years of experience in maintenance within a commercial, industrial, or institutional environment.
  • Proficiency in operating small and heavy equipment.
  • Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with supervisory experience preferred.
  • CPR and first aid certification within one year of hire.
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL Class A or B may be required depending on assignment.
Preferred Skills:
  • Advanced skills in two or more trades.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and use measurement instruments.
  • Knowledge of County policies and procedures.
Additional Requirements:

Background checks, physicals, drug tests, and other assessments are required post-employment offer. Computer skills include basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with County-specific programs. Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, lifting up to 100 pounds, and working in various weather conditions. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception. The work environment may involve noise, exposure to chemicals, dust, and working alone or in crews, often on uneven terrain.
