The County of Chester is seeking a Maintenance Technician III responsible for supervising maintenance tasks across various facilities, ensuring safety and functionality. Applicants must have significant experience in repair tasks such as electrical, plumbing, and mechanical work, and a solid foundation in trade skills is essential. This essential role may require working during emergencies and outside normal hours, contributing significantly to community safety and maintenance.
The Maintenance Technician III is responsible for performing and leading a variety of skilled maintenance, repairs, and construction tasks requiring trade skills such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, painting, masonry, concrete, asphalt, and landscape management. Facilities maintained may include buildings, bridges, parks, and trails. The position ensures that facilities, grounds, and equipment are in good operating condition, well maintained, and safe for public and staff use. It also involves leading crews or staff to perform these tasks.
This role is classified as an essential employee and may be required to work during office closures due to weather, disasters, or emergencies, including beyond normal hours, weekends, and holidays. A valid driver’s license is required, along with completion of documentation for a 3-year Motor Vehicle Record check. A criminal background check is also mandatory.
Responsibilities include supervising and performing maintenance checks and repairs on all facilities, structures, and grounds, including:
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, trade school or equivalent training, and at least five years of relevant experience. Skills in operating various equipment, communication, problem-solving, organization, and customer service are essential. Certification in CPR and first aid is required within one year of hire. Supervisory experience and a valid driver’s license are also necessary.
Preferred skills include advanced trade skills, ability to interpret construction drawings, use measurement instruments, and possibly a valid CDL license.
Additional requirements involve background checks, physical assessments, and drug testing as per County policy. Computer proficiency in basic software and County programs is expected. The physical demands include frequent standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting up to 100 pounds, and working in various weather conditions and environments with potential exposure to fumes, chemicals, and debris. Vision requirements are detailed, and work may involve outdoor tasks with uneven terrain and exposure to noise and weather extremes.
