Job summary

Ozark Adventist Academy is seeking a skilled maintenance director to oversee the repair, upkeep, and operations of campus buildings, staff housing, and vehicles. The role involves hands-on trades, supervising student workers, and coordinating with external contractors.

You will ensure preventative maintenance, safety, and cost-effective resource use, while maintaining a faith-based environment and the Academy’s mission. Evening and weekend work may be required.

Qualifications

  • Must be an SDA church member in regular standing.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Has a minimum of 3 years' experience in facilities maintenance across electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry and general building systems.
  • Training in electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical areas.
  • Demonstrates organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for staff, students, and contractors.
  • Manages multiple projects within budget.
  • CDL license with endorsement for passenger transportation in buses.
  • Able to supervise contractors and service personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees upkeep and repair of campus buildings and staff housing, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry and drywall.
  • Oversees maintenance of critical campus infrastructure such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and emergency systems.
  • Keeps campus grounds, walkways, parking lots and athletic fields well-kept and safe; maintains campus vehicles.
  • Coordinates with outside contractors and vendors via competitive bidding processes for timely work.
  • Manages work orders and schedules, and mentors student workers in safe equipment use.
  • Develops preventative maintenance schedules and conducts routine inspections.
  • Monitors expenses and reviews department budget to ensure cost-effective operations.
  • Responds to emergencies (plumbing leaks, outages, weather damage) and may require after-hours work.
  • Serves on faculty supervision team one evening per week and some weekends.

Ozark Adventist Academy is seeking a skilled, service-oriented maintenance director who will be responsible for the repair, support, installation, and upkeep of campus buildings, staff housing, and campus vehicles and equipment. The job will require skills in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, drywall, and basic appliance and equipment repair.

Core Responsibilities

  • Facilities Management:Manages all aspects of the upkeep and repair of campus buildings and staff housing, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and drywall. This also includes minor appliances and basic equipment repair.
  • Infrastructure Oversight:Oversees the maintenance of critical campus infrastructure, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and emergency systems.
  • Grounds and Vehicle Maintenance:Ensures that campus grounds, including lawns, walkways, parking lots, and athletic fields, are well-kept and safe. Performs basic maintenance on campus vehicles.
  • Project and Vendor Coordination:Coordinates with outside contractors, vendors, and property management companies through a competitive bidding process, ensuring that all necessary repairs and services are completed efficiently and on time.
  • Workforce and Workflow Management:Processes and prioritizes work orders, delegating tasks effectively to maintenance staff and student workers. Provides training on the safe use of equipment and tools, mentoring student workers.
  • Preventative Maintenance:Develops and implements preventative maintenance schedules and oversees routine inspections to address potential problems proactively.
  • Budget and Resource Management:Tracks expenses, reviews departmental budget, and ensures cost-effective purchasing and resource allocation.
  • Emergency Response:Responds to urgent issues such as plumbing leaks, power outages, and weather-related damage, which may require on-call availability for after-hours emergencies.
  • Student Supervision Duties:Serves on a faculty supervision team one evening per week, plus a weekend every few weeks.
  • Student Sponsorship:Serves in a sponsor role for a class or organization.
  • Campus Driver:Maintains a CDL license and serves as needed as a driver for local and overnight trips.
  • Flexibility: Other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or Vice-Principal of Finance.

This position reports to the Principal and Vice-Principal of Finance and supervises grounds staff and student workers. Wage is between $54,000 and $69,432 and will be determined by experience and certifications.

Required Experience

Qualifications

  • Must have an expressed commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and be an SDA church member in regular standing.
  • Communicate fluently in written and spoken English.
  • Has a minimum of 3 years' experience in facilities maintenance working with electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and general building systems.
  • Completed training in areas relevant to facility maintenance, including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical
  • Demonstrates organizational and project management skills
  • Exhibits strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with staff, students, and contractors
  • Manages multiple projects simultaneously while also staying within budget
  • Possesses a CDL license with endorsement for passenger transportation in buses
  • Must be able to monitor and supervise contractors and service personnel
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical certification or degree in facilities management, construction, or a related field preferred
  • Fluency in additional languages

The position requires both hands-on maintenance activity and office work, which may occur indoors or outdoors in all types of weather and temperature conditions. The employee must be able to push and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight, climb ladders, and perform tasks requiring physical exertion such as stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, reaching, twisting, and grasping. The maintenance director must be able to safely operate all motor vehicles, including cars, trucks, vans, and buses. Evenings and weekend work will be required at times.
