Job description

Under the direction of the National Facilities Director, the Maintenance Technician will ensure that all facilities are properly maintained in a manner which reflects our organizational pride and the high standards of care for the students we serve. The Facilities/Maintenance Technician will actively assist with the maintenance of all school facilities including landscaping, parking surfaces, HVAC systems, and mechanical/electrical systems.

Essential Responsibilities and Competencies
  • Proactively maintain mechanical and electrical equipment with the goal of minimizing system down time and expensive repairs
  • Ensure data entry into the system to handle all maintenance service requests from building managers and ensure facilities are fully operational on all school days
  • Assess maintenance issues and determine if an outside vendor needs to be brought in to remedy the situation
  • Coordinate and collaborate with all vendors to ensure they are complete and meet the expectations of the building leader
  • Inspect school facilities and grounds regularly to assess maintenance and aesthetic needs
  • Work with school site employees to address maintenance concerns or issues
  • Maintenance may include the following items:
    • Trash removal-dumpsters, site, interior
    • Landscaping-lawn, weed control, plant care
    • Lighting-replace bulbs, ballasts
    • Site drainage-storm drains, gutter, downspouts
    • Plumbing fixtures-repair, adjust, replace
    • Fire suppression-fire extinguishers, fire sprinkling system
    • Railings-inspect and touch up
    • Counters and bathroom partitions-repair
    • Baseboards and moldings
    • Exterior painting or surface repair
    • Elevator
    • Pest control
    • Roof repair and maintenance
    • Windows and doors-locks & lubrication
    • HVAC units-filters and cleaning
    • Low voltage cabling & terminations
    • Exterior and interior lighting-program
    • Parking lot gates-operators, hardware and doors
    • Other miscellaneous repairs
  • Perform other duties as requested or required

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 1 or more years of work experience in building maintenance at commercial facilities
  • Previous experience working in a school environment preferred
  • Ability to complete basic repairs and to know when a project requires expertise
  • Meet all physical demands of the position
  • Willingness to travel to multiple locations
  • Proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Physical Requirements
  • Bend/Stoop/Squat/Kneel Perform routine maintenance
  • Climb Stairs Routine duties require access to all levels
  • Push or Pull Move equipment, appliances, open and close doors, etc.
  • Comfortable operating cleaning machinery
  • Reach above Shoulder Perform routine maintenance/repairs, stock and remove equipment, to place trash in dumpster
  • Climb Ladders Perform routine cleaning
  • Grasp/Grip/Turning Handle tools and equipment, perform routine cleaning
  • Finger Dexterity Handle tools and equipment, perform routine cleaning
  • Lifting/carrying (supplies, trash receptacles, ladders, etc.): Occasional need (1% to 33% of the time) 25 - 75 lbs. Frequent need (33% to 66% of the time) 1 - 25 lbs. Constant need (66% to 100% of the time.
