Job summary

The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a Facilities Worker to perform cleaning, maintenance, and related tasks across campus locations. Duties include operating scrubbing, buffing, and shampooing equipment, cleaning floors, windows, and fixtures, moving furniture, and assisting with event setups.

Candidates should be able to follow simple instructions, perform basic arithmetic, and work 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shifts as listed.

Qualifications

  • Requires the use of simple writing, adding, subtracting and carrying out instructions.
  • Ability to read fixed gauges and direct reading instruments without interpretation.
  • Up to 3 months of effective experience.

Responsibilities

  • Operate scrubbing, buffing, and shampooing equipment and hand tools as required.
  • Sweep, scrub, strip, seal, wax, and shampoo floors and furnishings.
  • Move, remove, replace furniture and materials; assist in event setups on campus.
  • Shovel snow, apply sand or de-icing materials on walks and driveways.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area; report unusual conditions to supervisor.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Operate various types of scrubbing, buffing, and shampooing equipment such as scrubbing machine, vacuum, wet-dry pick-up machine, etc., and hand tools, as required Sweep, scrub, strip, seal, wax, and shampoo various types of floors and floor coverings and furniture Remove, replace incandescent bulbs, fluorescent tubes and starters, shades, and covers(all from permanent fixtures), venetian and roller blinds, window screens, wall hangings, etc. Remove accumulated waste and debris from buildings, as required Remove, move, and/or relocate furniture, equipment, supplies and construction materials, unload incoming materials and move to storage locations Wash windows, wall sections, floor to ceiling, ceilings, venetian and roller blinds, light fixtures, window screens, etc. Assist in set-up and clean-up of chairs, tables, stages, platforms, bleachers, lecterns, etc , at various campus locations for banquets, plays, and other scheduled events Remove debris from walks and driveways; rake and remove leaves; pick up paper and other debris Operate motor vehicle to transport materials, equipment and personnel between building work sites Maintain tools, equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition; report unusual conditions to supervisor Shovel snow and chop ice; spread cinders, sand and other anti-skid materials on walks and driveways using small power and/or hand tools, as required

Job Requirements:

Requires the use of simple writing, adding, subtracting, whole numbers and the carrying out of instructions; and the use of fixed gauges and direct reading instruments and devices in which interpretation is not required. Up to 3 months of effective experience.

Shift could be: 1st shift, Monday-Friday 5:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. 2nd shift, Monday-Friday 4:30 p.m. - 1:00 a.m. 3rd shift, Sunday-Thursday 8:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m. 3rd shift, Sunday-Friday 10:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m.
