Job summary

National Park Service in Crescent City, CA is seeking a Maintenance Worker (Trails) to support the construction and upkeep of graded and paved trails, drainage systems, bridges, and guard rails. The position is a term appointment with potential extensions beyond 13 months, up to four years, at management discretion.

You will operate hand power tools safely, perform routine painting, carpentry, janitorial tasks, trash removal, grounds keeping, and assist in transporting materials to worksites.

Job description

You will serve as a Maintenance Worker (Trails). Salary: Orick, CA - $23.26 (Step 01) to $28.81 (Step 5); Crescent City, CA - $22.81 (Step 01) to $26.59 (Step 5); Pay will vary based on grade level and/or duty location for which you're selected. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.

Key Responsibilities

This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years, or more based on any changes to regulations governing the number of years term appointments may last, without further competition at management's discretion.

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Assists in the maintenance and construction of graded and paved trails, trail drainage, trail bridges, and guard rails. Assists in the installation, repair and replacement of water diversion bars, cribbing and retainer walls. Removes windfalls, rockslides, surface outcroppings and debris from trails. Removes encroaching brush.

Maintains, builds up or addresses tread surfaces in eroded areas. Utilize hand power tools safely and effectively and has the ability to maintain these tools properly. Perform routine painting, carpentry, janitorial, cleaning, trash pick-up, grounds keeping, digging, raking, or sweeping, assisting in transporting camp and work supplies and construction materials to stagging and worksites.
